@Stargazer Ah well there you go, two incorrect scores by me in a row, old age must be catching up with me! Travesty of justice really as the Samoans were the more effective team and should have won but for lack of an accurate goalkicker (admittedly their tries were mostly score out near the sideline and the kicks were reasonable attempts) and a couple of very lucky tries going against them.

Didn’t they teach you maths in those Napier schools? 🤣

@Nepia If you must know I got the 17 - 00 halftime scoreline yesterday from a bunch of Clive players/supporters, two of whom I personally know attended Te Aute College! My tallying from them on used that as the starting point.
That however does not excuse Friday night when I simply forgot about the Bay's second half try. In mitigation we were so far on top and had scored so many tries it is easy to forget one or two of them.

@Stargazer Can't find where you posted this weekends Rep Fixtures so could you stick them in this topic thanks as I am in the process of arranging things so I can get to the Saracens v Centurions game if it is up this way.

@Stargazer Thank you, probably be going to Park Island rather than NBHS although there is the possibility to do the first half at Te Awa before hurredly hot footing it over to Tamatea depending of the schools game kick off time

            Crap news from Park Island
            HB 17 - 00 Wellington
Ok that was what it was when I politely requested the referee call full time, sadly just 20 minutes had been played and it was all HB. The next fifty minutes were a nightmare but the Bay have been officially declared winners on the "last try wins" rule as they utterly dominated the last five or six minutes with a smashing 14 - 00 margin.
It was just the remaining fifty minutes inbetween that saw Wellington rack up 54 points to nil that sure sucked. Even discounting the two tries that I am considering appealing to the IRB for blatantly clear and obvious forward passes the Wellington backs were just too slick and quick for their HB opposition. Admittedly there was also an uncalled forward pass in one of the late HB tries.

For the visitors Losi Filipo showed his undoubted class with a superb display on the wing whilst 2nd five Brandyn Laursen was in brilliant form at second five in terms of gliding through gaps as well as timing his passes to perfection and Callum Harkin at first five also showed a bit of something to his game but looked to be favouring a left hammy in the last 20 minutes.
In contrast to the backs up front the Bay did have the ever so slight advantage except for some oooopses in lineouts which halted attacking drives too often. There was also a marginal advantage in the scrums but not too much to raise the middle finger to Wellington over. In the loose things were about evens although the HB blindside (who might have been the Taradale number eight) started with a number of bone crunching bursts and then went into the tighter stuff as Wellington upped the pace of the game.

As much as I don't want to say it but some of the Wellington tries were a delight to see, especially their first one but having said that the first three Bay tries were also well constructed.

Zero out of ten to the HBRFU for their promotion and support of the game given once again no scoreboard or time clock, no team sheets available to be handed out nor any ball boys. About the only things they got right was advising the HBRRA that there was a game on and also letting the Development team know the same and that kick off was at 1.00pm Sadly there was sweet FA in terms of contribution. Despite the almost total absence of advising the game was on in all the media available to them, including the free media, remarkably the attendance was around the 400 mark but that was nothing to do with anything done by the host Union.

Oh nearly forgot both team's fullbacks looked good which was a surprise considering the Wellington one looked like he might have been a spewky pale white milk bottle legged red headed Scotsman but turned out to be someone from down the South Island who had just come back from playing in the USA MLR going by the name of Harrison Boyle if the info elicited for the Wgtn water runner could be relied on. He hit the line at speed a couple of times and was through in a flash. Just goes to show you looks can be deceiving.

Final score (courtesy of the touch judge)
            HB Development 31 - 54 Wellington Centurions

@Higgins Thanks for that write-up. Too bad about the result, but not entirely unexpected.

I wonder sending the HBRU an email complaining about their lack of info about rep games will be of any use? It annoys me immensely!

              Other rep results:

Central Hawke's Bay Rep team 18 - 21 Whanganui Development

              Hawke's Bay Māori 47 - 31 Manawatū Māori

HB Under 19 scheduled match v North Harbour was not played.

Instead they played a game of three halves at Masterton v Wairarapa Bush Barbarians, won 43-0 and Hurricanes Heartland U20, won 12-10.

At least three rep games on Sat 27 August, two at home.

                    • HB U19 v Wellington U19, Napier (venue and time TBC)
                    • HB Māori v HB Samoa, Farndon Park, 3.00pm
                    • Manawatū Evergreens v Hawke's Bay Development, CET Arena 3, 2.00pm

From the HB Māori Rugby FB page:

                    TAMATEA ARIKINUI TAONGA WERO

Our 3rd game in 2022 is a re-match from two weeks ago against HB Samoa. It is sure to be a great match up as the last game produced a final minute try by Te Matau a Maui to clinch the match 26-25.

On Saturday we introduce a taonga which these two teams will contest every year from 2022. The TAMATEA ARIKINUI TAONGA has been specially commissioned by Te Matau a Maui and is a beautifully carved taonga by Matua Taka Walker.

The TAMATEA ARIKINUI TAONGA honours the connection between Ngati Kahungunu, Samoa and the Takitimu waka which had Tamatea Arikinui as the rangatira of our waka.

Come on down to Farndon Park, Clive on Saturday for the 3.00pm kick-off to support Te Matau a Maui as we host HB Samoa to see who will win the inaugural challenge for the - Tamatea Arikinui Taonga

It is sure to be a cracker!

The Hawke's Bay Tui finished second on the Championship table after the regular season. Because of that, they have bye this weekend, while numbers 3-6 play for the remaining two spots in the semi-finals. I would be very surprised if they don't play Northland (at home) in the semis.

Not sure whether two weeks off (last Saturday's game against Ta$man was cancelled) is such a good preparation for the semis.

@Stargazer Ahhh crap, not enough time to get from Tamatea to McLean Park and actually find a park then queue to get into the ground in time for kickoff in the 14th Shield defence in this reign.

The Hawke's Bay Development game in Palmy has been moved to 11.30am and CET Arena (the main ground in the stadium) due to several ground closures.

                              Results:

                              HB U19 15 - 22 Wellington U19
                              Manawatū Evergreens 40 - 19 HB Development
                              HB Māori 29 - 22 HB Samoa

In previous years, Wellington U19 completely smashed us, so this isn't a very bad result.
I'd be interested to see a line-up of the HB Development team. The score sounds awful.

If they'd zoomed in more, I might have recognised more than 1 player. This photo is from the Manawatū FB page:

If you feel like torturing yourself by watching our development team getting spanked by the Poo's Evergreens, here's last Saturday's game on YouTube. I'm still considering whether it's worth my time.

@Higgins This is the only home game:

                                        Farah Palmer Cup Championship Semi-final
                                        Tui v Northland
Saturday 3 September 2022 at McLean Park. Kick-off is at 11.35am.

Entry is FREE through gate 4 only due to the Home and Garden show also being at McLean Park this weekend.

All other rep games are away games. I'll post the details once I know them.

                                          Results Saturday 3 September 2022:

The Tui have reached the Farah Palmer Cup semi-final after beating Northland 28 - 19.

The Hawke's Bay Development v Taranaki Development game ended in a 27 all draw.

Our U18 boys beat their Poverty Bay counterparts 24 to 21.

The best result of the day came from our U19s, who smashed Manawatū U19 by no less than 38 to nil.

I found out that the U18 game was streamed live after the stream had ended. Here's the link:
