Off to New Caledonia for a fortnight on Saturday. Never been on my bucket list but hey it's not NZ or Oz

it is hellish expensive though. Still as it is part of Europe 😉 no Covid restrictions at all.

Haven't had to parlez Franglais since 1989 😱

My fifth form French came in handy in Gay Paris back in 01.

    “Deux Heineken s’il vous plait”

What more do you need to know how to say ?

    et mon ami paie

Hmmmmm so I wonder if the reason I was constantly broke in London was

    A ) overpriced drinks
    B ) Drinking too much
C ) Getting paid fuck all

    Or

D ) all of the above.

    Definitely D.

@nzzp I remember arriving in London in 1999 when £1 was about $3.20 and a stubbie of Steinlager, Lion Red, Speights, Export Gold cost £5, which was still better than whatever they charged for a pint of Fosters!

6 squid is pretty average but often more. Probably a little above Paris.
I actually think NZ is the rip off. No standard glass size. Easily $12 a “handle” which can be anywhere from 440-500 ml

As low as 400 ml which does my nut.

Some places do the proper 568 ml though (Galbraiths I think)

Two 'pints' in a downtown pub a few years ago. 400 ml handles. $36. FFS.

Voting with my feet next time

London you need to pick your spot ....

Wembley is not your spot, 7.45 a pint on the weekend .... ouch! Most pubs are around 5.50-6 now, although if you do happy hours you can consistently find them for 4.50-4.90 ish.

France, like most of Central Europe, is around 3.50-4 EUR for around 400ml. You can of course pay 6-7 EUR easily in the trendy parts of the big cities. So the price is pretty much so the same.

I think London is one of the cheaper places to get pissed in a boozer compared to most of the Western world honestly. You'll rarely find a spot which tries to charge you absolutely ridiculous levels.

@MajorRage fond memories of drinking the most expensive Sam Smiths in Yorkshire at a pound 31 or something a pint. Even at $3 to the pound it was cheaper than NZ!

Was that at the Sunday morning Walkabout Club?

@MajorRage £4.50 or thereabouts for a large brancott sav on tap and a pint of Coors light at spoons. What could go wrong?

Better than the €18 I once paid for a double JD on Grafton street.

    Pints in Sydney are c. $14 these days. At a 1.71 fx rate, that's > £8.

    Schooners(425mls) are typically $10, that's £5.80 or NZD $9

    Good times.

When i arrived in UK a pint was 35 pence

A litre jug of Lion had just gone up to $1.00 in NZ.

I now pay around $13.00 for a 400 ml glass.

That's a cost of living crisis

Over seas but not really overseas as part of Zealandia?

GSA Today - Zealandia: Earth’s Hidden Continent

New Zealand and New Caledonia are large, isolated islands in the southwest Pacific Ocean. They have never been regarded as part of the Australian continent, although the geographic term Australasia often is used for the collective land and islands of the southwest Pacific region. In the following sections, we summarize the four key attributes of continents and assess how Zealandia meets these criteria.
