Definite similarities in the song and interesting how cos of the Statute of limitations they could only sue after LZ released it again. Not sure why they didn't do it to start with ?
 
There's only so many chord progressions in the world, boggles my mind how Deep Purple got away with this for example.....( you only need to listen to the first couple of notes )

MC Hammer rather naively stole samples from Rick James AND Prince in his debut album. RJ tried to sue but settled for a co writing credit for "Superfreak/U can't touch this". Not sure what happened for 'When doves cry/Pray" though.......

Not hugely to be honest. There's a pretty fine line between blues being awesome and not and they're a bit too......can't put my finger on it. Another awesome late Texan guitarist/vocalist was Johnny Winter. Best slide guitarist ever and just as importantly like SRV he was a genuine white bluesman ( extremely so in his case ). Will always have a bit of a soft spot for ZZ Top too although they've done just as much crap as good stuff all in all.... 
Back to SRV, remember when one ad would take up a whole break ? 
This is pretty cool despite being voiced by that guy who does lots of jingles now......

There's an SRV tribute band in the hutt called double trouble and the same guys have a t birds band called the fabulous pakehas. Theyre pretty good IMHO . 
I had a Johnny Winter album I loved but my ex claimed it , she never got my t bone walker and howling wolf stuff.

No, my dad and step dad weren't/aren't into music unless you call Charlie Pride music. We've got some pretty awesome local bluesmen here, apart from the two I've mentioned have you ever seen Billy TK jr or Bullfrog Rata?
 
She technically didn't claim it, she has over 500 cds and the around the same around of lps and I couldn't be arsed going through them to try and find my copy of JW and Garage days revisited. I doubt she's ever listened to it, she's into trance music and other crap .
 
Now that I'm home I watched that ad, its been so long since it was on tv I never realised that the pick up truck was the same as the one I owned but mine was red, or that SRV was actually in the ad so much. Very cool

Have heard the names, nothing more. My ex used to work at Te Papa and they had some cool Xmas parties, I "sat in" on bass with one of the blues bands, really cool bunch of Maori fullas. Maybe it was the ones you're talking about ? 
 
I got into so much good music simply by looking at Dads records when we lived in Nelson and chucking on the cool/quirky ones. Names that he had included the Doors ( Roadhouse Blues is still arguably THE best blue/rock song fucken ever ), Hendrix, Led Zep, Howlin Wolf, Deep Purple, Who etc. It was a great grounding for a young fella. As a Scotsman living in London in the 60s he has some good stories of seeing the Yardbirds, Donovan, Stones etc when they were starting out. 
 
SRV got engaged to a chick from NZ, will never forget the day he died, the old man was overseas and in 1990 as well all know getting in touch with people was tougher. No internet obviously and we weren't due to ring Dad til later in the week but I begged Mum to let me call him so I could break the news. I heard it on ZMFM of all places in between Mariah Carey and MC Hammer...... 
 
Despite all that I have a bit of love/hate with Blues/Rock. I CAN NOT stand Gary Moore for example. Jeff Healey was pretty shit too in my view. "One bourbon, one scotch, one beer" is a top track but George Thorogood is pretty "meh" too. 
 
I had a go at Clapton in the Prince thread but hats off to the man for his "Crossroads" festival he organizes, some top talent there. Really cool discovering new ones too, none more so than this guy, if you don't dig this groove then I'm gonna have another child and not get them vaccinated.....

Cool post though , my old man was a generation or so older and missed that era of music . I worked in a timber mill when I was at school and there were a couple of guys there who played guitar and they told me about a few bands I never listened to before. 
Moore was better when he did his own thing even if it's pretty dated now , his blues was pretty average . I liked Thoroughgood when I was younger but I find him pretty boring now. 
Agree about Crossroads, awesome. 
Jeff Lynne is on prime rocks this week, you should watch it and see if you change your mind about him after seeing what others say about him in interviews.

I read Johnny Cash's book at Xmas , he and Orbison were neighbours and good friends. Orbison lost his wife and four kids in a house fire the poor bugger .
