The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Sensational flick, 3 hours long, but one of those movies that didn't feel anything like being that long. DiCaprio and Hill are utterly convincing in their roles, and Margot Robbie is some sensational eye candy. It's a great story (I can't help but think a fair bit of embellishment on the truth though) though and a fascinating look into one side of Wall Street from that period in time.

An absolute shitload of embellishment, not just a bit. Decent enough flick, I found Hill an annoying fat fluffybunny as I do in everything I see him in but LDC gave a brilliant performance as always.

As I said, utterly convincing! It wouldn't be an embellishment to say I've come across 10-15 Donnie Azhoff's over my career. US brokers are absolutely full of loudmouth, arrogant, annoying New Yorkers of Jewish descent.

Man of Tai Chi

Keanu Reeves' directorial debut in a fairly fun kung fu film with some good wire action and nods to the classic camera work of the HK style martial arts films.

Keanu also stars as an angry, rich motherfucker who likes to watch people punch the shit out of each other, and sell that shit to rich, angry people who like the same in an underground fighting ring.

There is a young, polite Tai Chi lad who turns to Angry Keanu to make some money to save his temple. His sifu is not thrilled that he's using Tai Chi for beating people to a pulp, and it turns young lad into an angry motherfucker.

Lots of punching.

I give it:

Watched a bit of an old Cult classic last night.....

Event Horizon.

Nicely done sci fi/horror ( more emphasis on the latter ). Space travel is actually much fraught with danger than Han and Chewie would have us believe. Hard to say what it is about this flick but it gets in your mind and makes you think and thank fuck that you're not there in that horrific situation with the crew. Builds really nicely, loads of tension and some top notch performances from Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill and some of the supporting cast, possibly let down by a it of silliness towards the end. Those that have seen it will agree the flashbacks showing what happened to the previous crew are amongst the more "WTF that's horrific" scenes in Movie history.

That movie is fucking awesome. Saw it at the movies and it was terrifying (that trapped at the edge of space shit gets me every time. Fucking Alien...)

Now that I've seen it a bunch of times it's lost some of it's appeal, but it's still a good one.

I had a good time watching it in the cinema. Very annoying that almost every space movie uses this plot element now though!

It is, love the way Sam Neills character goes from straight laced geek to psycho as the movie progresses ( obviously the ship finds him the most easy to possess given he designed it and loves it so much ? )

Beyond fucken excited about Alien:Covenant coming out. Set 10 years after Prometheus ( which I actually enjoyed more than most )

Everest.

Pretty good, a bit harrowing, especially the satellite calls between Rob and Jan. (The NZ 'accents' were a bit hard to listen to at times, ranged from tolerable to ghastly.) Really good cinematography, and showed how true it is about nature being able to fuck you over in the blink of an eye, and one small decision changing everything for many people.

13 Hours in Benghazi: There's actually a decent action movie (Black Hawk Down style) in amongst this Michael Bay movie. But by god it's chessy, there's some lines that they appear to have pulled from a Nicholas Sparks film, some from an 80s action movie and some from a Republican rally.

But the action and it's build up are generally decent, and a decent edit of the footage would make it watchable.

Went to see Eddie the Eagle, lots of heart warming amusement, very enjoyable film

13 Hours, Secret Soldiers of Benghazi...supposedly based on a true story, but with Michael Bays direction, me thinks there were alot of liberties taken, plenty of US bravado...that being said, I did like it, plenty of guuns, explosions a bit of tension and being a true story I just knew Optimus Prime wasnt gonna save the day this time!

Cell

Sounded good, from what I heard the premise was 28 days later with Cellphones. John Cusacks character is at an airport and all of a sudden everyone using a mobile has turned into a bloodthirsty lunatic, luckily his ran out of batteries moments before. Some good scenes of carnage followed by him meeting up with Samuel L Jackson and various other folk. This was a Stephen King book so alarm bells should have rung right then and there ( for whatever reason his stuff never holds up on screen )....poorly paced, seemed rushed and had a few inconsistencies. SLJ gave a performance he could have done in his sleep and some of the explosions looked like they were from a bad 90s show. In fact the whole thing felt like a shit episode of the walking dead......

Fucken stupid ending which made me annoyed I wasted an hour and a half of my life.

London has Fallen: What a shit movie. Shittest movie I've seen this year.

It doesn't even deserve the effort of coming up with a witty rating so 1/2 a star out of 5 stars.

The Conjuring 2: Based off some paranormal story from '70s Britain (most consider it an elaborate hoax). Basically ghost demon attacks family so family calls in some famous paranormal investigators.

A really good horror film, one of the best in recent times. Starts off slow and the kids aren't great actors (especially the main girl in the family) but Aussie director James Wan doesn't follow the same horror script all else follow, i.e jump scare, kids see ghost demon but adults don't, jump scare, someone investigates spooky shit in basement alone, jump scare and so on.

Instead it's ghost demon attacks kids, ghost demon spooks family and anyone else visiting and everyone goes "LET'S GET THE FUCK OUTTA THIS HOUSE!", cause you know, as you would if you actually saw paranormal activity like that. The ghost demon is a standard James Wan creepy old lady but a scene involving one of the investigators and a painting is intense.
