So according to Rennie, Rieko Ioane gave some lip to Folau Faingaa about the Wallabies disrespecting the haka with the arrow formation. From what I can understand (and it seems hearsay upon hearsay), this comment was made on-field after the ABs scored the winning try.

Seriously? Here’s what’s going on here. It’s finals weekend in Australia for the actually popular codes. The Swans play the Cats and the Rabbitohs play the Panthers. The ARU needs eyeballs on their code and, by implication, their advertisers. So one of the spin doctors sends Rennie out to fan a confected controversy over a throwaway comment by one player to another in the heat of a game.

This happens constantly in Australia with rugby union. The hacks, desperate for column inches, are complicit with these five-minute manufactured controversies and lame attempts to fan outrage. And of course the rest of the media, including NZ’s own tumbleweed newsrooms, buy it.

    It really is pathetic.

Perhaps, but as you stated: it is finals weekend for popular codes.

What else is rugby to do in order to stay in the media? Fan the flames of outrage - because we didn't win. And even if we did: Swain is getting cited.

I have no doubt that every Aussie rugby fan would love the luxury of a single shithouse NRL team and a bunch of other sports that barely appear on the radar, but that's not the reality.

On the plus side for AB fans: you've temporarily stopped talking about firing Foster into the sun.

Sounds like Reiko Ioane is gearing up nicely for when Coles retires.

To hell with the doom and gloomers, I fucking love that backline, have wanted to see it for ages. Smith's lightning pass to set them away, Mo'unga's vision on attack who is finding his feet at this level, Jordie a big bopper at 12 who will hit hard on defense, bend the line and has the bonus of a massive boot, Rieko the most lethal player on the planet right now, the closest thing we've had to Cullen on the right wing, world POTY at the back with a license to roam and inject himself in his usual opportunistic way, and an absolute powerhouse on the left wing that is making a habit of knocking those who try to tackle him the fuck out.

If they click they will be fucking unstoppable.

I admire the optimism but sometimes it’s best to keep it real just in case we lose badly.

He was always just an angry man. Some of his stuff when he cheated with the front row replacement bullshit against the Canes sealed my opinion of him.

And my favourite Super team is the Chiefs.

@Tim So Codie gets a lifeline. I like that the bench front row is unlikely to lose a scrum and may win some ball, but there's not a lot of mobility from Laulala as the game is supposed to "open up".

Interesting that they've preferred Ofa to Aidan Ross.

That probably doesn't bode that well for Ross for the EOYT - unless there's an element of last chance saloon for Ofa and Nepo (and Codie).

At present, Lomax, Newell, Laulala and Ofa (and Angus, but probably not) all competing for three tighthead spots on EOYT.

Laulala at most risk out of that list IMO. Around the field he's like a statue at the moment.

It’s a funny one cos he’s kinda built along similar lines to ST yet whilst one of them looks like he could run through a brick wall the other has about as much impact as a fly on a windshield.

@His-Bobness I've never heard of a coach singling out a player for making mean comments on the field. Very, very lame PR shit.

If it's going to put anyone off their game though, it's Rieko.

@booboo Looking at the bloating in his face, I’d wager he’s hitting the booze pretty hard as well. Bitter and twisted.

He might just be possessed by the devil. That's a symptom isn't it?
