@MN5 Getting the water right is the critical factor in the germination. What are you germinating them on?

If they feel dry I'd give them a light mist from a spray bottle.

I always leave a few chillis on my bushes and have a fair degree of success with self germination, but Wellington is probably too cold for that, given you want to give the plants as long a growing season as possible to develop flavour in the fruit.

Growing them in the little dirt things that came in the package. Pic for reference !

@MN5 same process as the illegal plants in the foil lined shed with the gro-tubes will work fine. Once about 6 inches high you can take them out for a few hours a day, extending the time according to the weather to harden them .

4 foot on average but during height of season maybe 5 feet.

They are more bush than a tree. Always produced a hundred or so chillies a season.

@Hooroo yeah we barely get frosts up here, think we had 3 very light dustings this year, but where my chillis are (in planter boxes or big pots) def doesnt get touched by any frosts.

@taniwharugby My chillis' are just planted out in the vege garden.

I thought you were the winterless north? I haven't had a frost at my place in 27 years.

@MN5 Definitely keep it moist but not wet.I'd give them a misting when the germinating medium feels dry.

@dogmeat I'm in an open rural area, so we have a nice little micro climate out here, including fog in the middle of summer, and they are looking at moving the airport out here...

@taniwharugby Whangarei has an airport 😲

Seriously Air NZ to Akl and an airline with a well dodgy safety record to the Barrier, Hamilton and Tauranga.

    Anywhere else?

... a rocking provincial airport on a peninsula that can't be extended right! And a long way from SH1.

Nothing is as foggy as New Plymouth airport. That place gets fogged in all. the. time.

@nzzp yep, well up the end of the Harbour right now....but as always, council failed to do due diligence, bought up land, and have recommended a move, but are now looking at recording weather data for a possible move in 10 years....TBH, it wont impact me directly, and may even improve some of the infrastructure out my way, but as always,, council miss the mark in getting to decisions.
