@Frank said in The hot takes and unpopular opinions:

1st season of True Detective is the best show of all time - imo

...and the second season one of the worst.

They third tried hard to redeem itself but went too slow and serious.

My ranking of their Top 10:

    1. The Wire

    Fuckin boring as shit.

I have to agree with you on that one.
I tried, I truly did, and it was with the knowledge that many people raved about it after a number of seasons.
I just couldn't get past the whiny sidekick.

I felt the same, but I'm still prepared to accept that it might be me, not the show - so I'm willing to give it one last crack from the beginning. I gave up Fox/Binge though, didn't hear it's also on Apple now?

Ha. I have really confused myself there. I was thinking I was replaying to a post about Breaking Bad!
The Wire was excellent. Really enjoyed it. I will say though, that it didn't age that well when I tried watching again. The characters and dialogue are still really good though.

I was just about to reply to your post wondering who was the whiny sidekick in The Wire. TBH, if you mean Jesse on BB I actually prefer his as a character to Cranston's character. Also, I've rewatched The Wire a couple of times and thought it's aged well as a period piece.

Well it is the unpopular opinion thread so @Frank's comment fits the bill perfectly.

I'm the complete opposite. Devoured Breaking Bad, even Jesse grows on you.

The Wire is a show I feel like I should love, but it just didn't grab me. As I said though, willing to go again.

I’ll forgive you for not seeing Schindler’s list after seeing this post.

Breaking Bad is genius ( if more and more implausible as each season went on, in real life I suspect Walt would have been caught by season 2 )

I went back and watched Season 2

It was much better second time around

Is that code for no Alexandra Daddario? 🙂

Season 2 was good but Season 1 was so good it was going to be hard to follow. Season 3 fell in between in my ratings. What I liked about this series is that each season has its own identity.

@Frank said in The hot takes and unpopular opinions:

British gameshows with comedians on them generally add up to way less than the sum of their parts.

8 Out of 10 Cats has Rachel Riley to rescue the show when the comedians get a bit tedious. Used to enjoy Pointless

    Popular doesn't equal good. 🙂

Rolling Stone magazine recently released their Top 100 TV shows. The list includes series and talk shows, and is US-centric. Like all polls, I don't take these too seriously.

    The Top 10 was:

    1. The Sopranos
    2. The Simpsons
    3. Breaking Bad
    4. The Wire
    5. Fleabag
    6. Seinfeld
    7. Mad Men
    8. Cheers
    9. Atlanta
    10. The Mary Tyler Moore Show

The 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time

The 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time

The definitive ranking of the 100 best shows in TV history, as determined by a poll of actors, producers, showrunners, critics, and the staff of Rolling Stone.

Thought Homeland and Handmaids Tale would have been in there unless I scrolled too quick and missed.

    Unpopular opinion: Seinfeld.
    Kramer, Kramer shits me.
George and Newman had riveting machismo on a string but Jerry and Elaine were mostly just irritating.

    Found Newman annoying and unfunny.
Never bought into his diabolical persona
Just seemed like an overacting fat man.
