Have we had Nirvana is overrated in the thread yet?
Who's rating them overly?
History.
Same as Janice Joplin.
History is wrong on both counts.
I'm rating them overly on both counts.
But I'm ok with others having different opinions to me.
I don’t mind Nirvana to be honest but don’t see them as this seminal band. Joplin? Shouty, pre new-age hippy. You just know she’ll have very hairy armpits and BO. Less importantly I can’t think of anything she did apart from Piece Of My Heart that I’d care to listen to again.
More an anyone-Leonard Cohen at that Chelsea hotel.

Food related.
South Africans do the best BBQs. Problem is they know it and go on about it.
Steak is HEAPS better than Lamb.
Crayfish is overrated and WAY overpriced.
Whitebait is too.
A really good Indian curry is, if anything, underpriced.
Thai curry is too.
All excellent shouts, especially crayfish. Do love me some lamb though, even if its a solid second to steak.
Oysters are a bit overrated. Scallops, despite being incredibly popular, totally justify it. And a feed of moules frites in France or Belgium is a near religious experience.

I was possibly a bit hasty on the lamb vs steak call. I find lamb a bit too fatty sometimes but when it is lean at its absolute best it probably can compete with steak.
I would love to have some top notch French food one day.
I’ll also throw Avocados in the WAY overrated bracket. It doesn’t taste of anything and has a weird texture.
It’s also such a wanky food to have on toast. The kind of shit that cyclists eat at a cafe and laugh about while they pay $25 for the privilege.

Thats Argentina. A mate of a mate who we had never met before hosted 5 of us for a feed at his house.
Spectacular. -
Of all the seafood, I reckon prawns are the most overrated for flavour. Just dull unless you send them to Mr Wong's and get him to put his special salt and pepper batter on them. Balmain bugs in the other hand rock.
Crab is also a complete waste of time. You can spend an hour dissecting one of those things, and you'll consume about 50gms of meat for your $100.
On veggies, what's with the resurrection of brussel sprouts? They were shit when I was a kid, and they're still shit now. They're basically Kale rolled into little balls.

@voodoo when was that? That photo looks familiar...

Boys trip to see the ABs in BA.
I've probably posted it 10-20x
Hah I was supposed to go on one same time, a bit of a reunification of the 'bra boys, I couldn't make it. Don't suppose someone lost a bet and had to wear a Waikato jersey?

(Edit, this is clearly a lie. They're just not Hamilton heathens)

Agree, and if you eat it with other foods it takes away the flavour of those foods.
Not sure about cyclist food though, in my experience 15 of them rocked up, blocked the footpath, took all the seating, and two had a coffee.

NZ is overrated.
Most of the North Island interior is boring as fuck farmland.
Beaches are good in that there are fuck all people on most of them, but a lot are inhospitable, windy and dangerous to swim at.Small town NZ totally lacks soul - full of prefabricated housing, beneficiaries with nothing to do, and often an aggressive bogan vibe.
The average Kiwi is friendly enough, so long as you say like to do Kiwi things, don't criticize NZ in any way, and don't think too far out of the box.
The mountains and lakes in the South Island are good, but better examples exist in Switzerland and the Canadian Rockies.
Finally NZ, is expensive without the pay to support the cost of living and lot of the population are either smug liberals or small town hicks (with the one thing they have in common is that you can't criticize precious NZ)

Seriously, you have to try this recipe:
Trim and peel the sprouts then par boil in salted water. Drain and plunge into ice water to fix the colour.
In a thick frying pan gently fry some chopped smoked streaky bacon in butter, add in some chopped, pre cooked chestnuts and plenty of black pepper. Add in the sprouts and gently warm through in the buttery, bacon and chestnut mix.
Serve the bacon and chestnuts as a side and throw the sprouts in the bin, then give yourself an uppercut for even contemplating them.

A lot of NZ cafes/restaurants are way overpriced for what you get and have a generic bland taste.

Ha ha, I was onto you sir, I skipped straight to the end of that post in anticipation, in fucking HOPE, that you were going to end it like that.
I'm pleased to say that we can still be friends.

Go anywhere. It’s the same. Had some really bland and not cheap experiences in Normandy just last month.
Had some great stuff too mind.
