Cheap wine is overpriced?
I wouldn't know. I defer to you extensive knowledge of cheap wine.

Of all the seafood, I reckon prawns are the most overrated for flavour. Just dull unless you send them to Mr Wong's and get him to put his special salt and pepper batter on them. Balmain bugs in the other hand rock.
Crab is also a complete waste of time. You can spend an hour dissecting one of those things, and you'll consume about 50gms of meat for your $100.
On veggies, what's with the resurrection of brussel sprouts? They were shit when I was a kid, and they're still shit now. They're basically Kale rolled into little balls.
Hokkaido
Crab = amazing
Wagyu lamb = amazingerI never bought them, but I still have vivid recollections 15yrs later of the sheer size of the crab legs they were selling frozen in the shops there. Fucking giant sea monsters!!!
Reckon they would still have tasted bland though...

Food related.
South Africans do the best BBQs. Problem is they know it and go on about it.
Steak is HEAPS better than Lamb.
Crayfish is overrated and WAY overpriced.
Whitebait is too.
A really good Indian curry is, if anything, underpriced.
Thai curry is too.
Nah south Americans/Portuguese do the best bbq. At least they have good sausage other than
boereworsthat curly one that looks like old dog poo. You've never had good lamb
Crayfish is shithouse.
Thats Argentina. A mate of a mate who we had never met before hosted 5 of us for a feed at his house.
Spectacular.Uruguay shits all over Argentina - BBQ/steak-wise, at least.
Lady-talent... Argentina.I think there comes a point where we don't need to fight over the bestest bbq-dudes anymore. I was pretty damn happy with my life that day!

YES. The fact his concerts apparently go on for about three hours is a horrific thought ( once he’s gotten through the bangers that is, of which he has a few I’ll admit )

Probably. Bought a bottle or three to take for Christmas Day about 8 yrs ago. Disappointing wasn't the word.
Is it just me but is NZ wine in general falling off a fair bit these days? Chilean Pinot Noir has now surpassed NZ IMHO and the Hawkes Bay Cabernet/Merlot I bought a few years back is rough and watery. Real dissappointing.

@Victor-Meldrew no idea, I drink so little wine that I wouldnt know if it is supposed to be good or not, if I like, I like.

Maybe you chose poorly. Some regions are better than others. Get some Waipara Pinot Noir or Marlborough Savvie into you!

Don't drink much white these days but like a cold Marlborough SB over a Sancerre - but neither beats a good Macon Village or Chablis for me.
I've had a few good Otago Pinot Noir's - Roaring Meg is good - but I think the winemakers in Chile are now better. There's some stuff coming out of Casablanca Valley which is awesome

@Victor-Meldrew Marlborough and Otago have both had some difficult vintages over the last few years. Most being average at best. Hopefully any quality drop is a blip rather than a trend.
Other than that I can't comment. I worked out a while ago I have to start drinking my cellar if I'm to finish it all before I die.

I hope so. I've had enough of the natives here asking how the AB's are doing without the bloody wine going in the same direction....

Jeez, how many bottles do you have and when's your next open-house? I have about 200 or so and have stopped buying for a year or two as many won't be drinking until then. (I have a few 2006 Cru Bourgeois which are still too tannic for my palate)

Dredd was fucking good. Criminal that Urban hasn't been signed for a sequel, and a more brutal R18 one at that. So much great material and a grim and brutal world to explore. What's not to love!
Agree re Dredd, much much better than the Stallone shitfest, though my one gripe was over use of the slo-mo to signify the drug usage. Seemed like padding after a while.
As an aside and nothing whatsoever to do with the thread, Ms Cato No1 has had several stories published in 2000AD, the mag that brought Dredd to the world. Proud Dad moment.
just catching up, agree Dredd was awesome....should have been picked up by some streaming service by now for a series....a much better movie than stallones one...BUT (and this might be the hot take)...i think the stalone one is probably closer to the actual comics...or at least an R18 version of it would have been...there is some mad camp crazy shit in those comics...Dredd is almost too "real"

Fuck yes.
My ex was a MASSIVE Springsteen fan. I mean... had been to many concerts - double-digits... usually queueing up at the venue for days beforehand to get in the front section. Had once been on stage.
She dragged me along to 2 while I was with her... 1 where we had to do the 2 days of queueing to get "up front" (not physically there the whole 2 days, but they set up a "regular check-ins" to keep your place in the queue. It was interesting to watch, but annoying to be a part of.) And it was in fucking Coventry. Not much else to do while waiting around between "check-ins".And 1 in Milan - WITHOUT the ridiculous queueing.
But the content of both concerts - exactly the same. And 3 hours is optimistic...3-4 hours of music I can objectively admit is reasonable, but nothing I'd normally pay for. Sure - the actual playlist might differ, but.... Him putting on a fucking "I'm so earnest" persona while talking to the crowd. Certain "rituals" performed... introducing the band using some ridiculous long-winded description, finding a kid in the crowd to dedicate a certain song to, getting a girl from the crowd up on stage for some other certain song, etc, etc.
I can see why his fans love him, but as a non-fan... it just seemed fake, and cringey. -

Yep... Stacked Actors always gives me a thrill.
Their other "hits" - I don't dislike, but... wouldn't bother buying an album. They're filler for a radio station like "The Rock".
Having said that - I've just thrown a 2-hour "Foo Fighters live" gig on the tele/stereo, and will give him/them a chance to change my mind.
Not sure I'm going to make it all the way through. -

Good pubs are few and far between in NZ. Very expensive, bad food, mediocre beer, and surly or indifferent service. No atmosphere.
Overall this is the worst take I’ve seen on here.
You’re correct in a few isolated cases but overall ?
Hell no.
