    SIX60 are boring as fuck

I don't actually know of any of their music, but... as they are apparently quite popular, I assume I've been hearing them all the fucking time since being back in NZ, but just never noticed it.
THAT is how boring as fuck they are.

Whenever I visit NZ - I'd always visit a record store, and buy nearly every album by a NZ artist released since the last time I was in NZ.
Except Six60. I somehow instinctively knew they were boring as fuck. THAT is how boring as fuck they are.

Fat Freddys Drop, The Black Seeds, Salmonella Dub. That's the limit of "NZ BBQ background reggae/dub" that I'm willing to abide.
Everything after that is even more bland. Ready Salted chips... with the salt removed. THAT is how boring as fuck they are.

It is an awful, awful, AWFUL genre. It’s like kiwis took a look at reggae and how shit it was and said “hold my beer, let’s make it worse”

And then Central/South America stepped in and said "hold me cerveza.... we give you... Reggaeton!".

    We’re on a roll with music……

    Bob Marley is shit…….

But Bob Dylan is even worse.

@MN5 shhhh...thought we might be able to ditch them on aussie...

Ah yes - the classic "Reverse Virgil".

Where The Virgil is bringing anything good with the most tenuous connection to NZ into the fold as something completely Kiwi, the "ReVirgil" is instead distancing anything Kiwi if it can be linked to someone else. Russell Crowe, for example.

While we’re ranting……( possibly more appropriate for the grumpy old man thread )

I hate the term “easy” anything.

“Oh I really like this beer, it’s so easy to drink” ( as opposed to all those ones that are a big problem to drink )

( Fleetwood Mac/Eagles/SIX60/Jack Johnson etc come on the radio )

“Oh I love this, great background music, so easy listening” ( as opposed to anything else, I’m having a really difficult time listening to this but I’ll get through it )

    Fuck off.

    Fuck off.

A derivative of this i hate is the common Aussie term "too easy". For example you ask if you can have pepper at a cafe or order a beer and they reply "too easy". WTF, just say yep, sure, or any other normal word and bring me the pepper or beer.

What's worse is on my last trip home I discovered it had entered the NZ lexicon as well.

I know one of them well enough to chat to and the last time I saw him he didn't appear to be a dickhead.

I actually only know one of their songs though. 🙂

    Haha, yeah my bad.

TBF, might be a bit different catching up with someone on the marae as opposed to being out and about in Dunners.

The biggest band in New Zealand history are doing everything wrong

Six60 are as much a business as a band, and have broken every rule in music on their way to historically unprecedented success, writes lapsed music critic and Six60 hater Duncan Greive.

They don't sound particularly up themselves - just really lucky. Mind you article is 4 years old

I did further research and yes I do recognise the two I played (first 30 seconds of). Sounds like what's playing in the supermarket when I go shopping. Bland as an art form.

I agree with @MN5 - they are boring as fuck - and laughing all the way to the bank.

    I'm staying willfully ignorant.
I keep thinking I should look them up, and at least be aware of what it is I'm dismissing. And typically feel disdain for people who seem "proudly ignorant" of anything. But in this case... willing to be a hypocrite.

So it looks like my post was neither a hot take or an unpopular opinion.
I don’t really care what genre they play, they and their music are simply boring as fuck and I can’t fathom their popularity.
The lead singer looks like an accounting clerk dressed by his mum for casual Fridays. Where do you even buy pleated chinos?
They take the average guy vibe to its lowest extremes

    Surely not.

Bit of a general statement but I can run with that. Sometimes it’s all about timing.
By timing I don’t mean the eggs but arriving at them at the same time as the hot chick that you spotted walking in.
