Oh, yeah. “we love Wags”
Fuck off.
He's a flat track bully constantly bowling bodyline at tailenders.
Since when did we countenance that?
I get that he “puts his heart into it”, “plays his guts out”, etc, etc..
But he plays like a fluffybunny. And I don't think he represents either NZ, nor the facile “Play hard but play fair” ethos we've adopted.
Hypocritical as fuck.
Too drunk to debate this tonight. Or ever. Happy to watch the shitstorm though...I’m not even going to dignify this with a reply.
Even though I just did
Even just ‘liking’ Wags is worthy of a ban on here.
If he played for any other team, we'd be abusing him as a dirty fluffybunny.
I genuinely don't like him representing my country. Not Richard Loe levels, but... still. -
Wags bowls like a slightly quicker Craig Macmillan

This may not be a hot take, but I can't be fucked finding the netball thread.
What a stupid sport it is. I can actually handle watching it, but I have to block out the fact that the rules are just completely idiotic. They took a great game in basketball, and decided they'd impose a heap of stupid rules (contact on the ball, wtf???) to invent a new female-friendly game. For what? Daft.
-
@voodoo played it? Great fun to play, especially indoor, 6 a side. I'm too unco to bounce a ball but can throw, jump and run.
Contact on the ball makes complete sense, otherwise everyone just whacks the ball out of everyone else's hands and you don't have a game.
Maybe for you it's just that basketball is rugby league and netball is rugby union.
-
Personally think netball is the ultimate team sport.
Only 2 players get to defend the goal, there are limited other defenders, and there are limited attackers, and only two can actually score.
You've got to trust your team mates to do their job.
Hate watching it though.

I have played it, only mixed, but a few seasons. Why on earth shouldn't you be allowed to whack the ball out of someone's hand if you dont touch the player? It's so stupid.
But that's just one dumb rule. Why don't we allow a defender to go forward if they want? Why can't a wing attack take a shot?
Should also be allowed to dribble the ball, set screens, and dunk it

That may be another unpopular opinion ….

I'm sure it's not my best. I'm ok if you hold back a like. I'll do better next time (maybe)

It's about level with rugby for me.

@voodoo certainly think they miss a bit in terms if layup and dunks
You can do a layup, I'm surprised you haven't seen it. Don't think you can dunk.
Just don't see it tried too often.

That's pretty much 90% of the scoring plays from one guy in my team. I don't do it because unco and I've usually already taken my 1.5 steps just to get within shooting range.

Am speaking as a former netball dad
Well you obviously didn't yell loud enough.
Am speaking as a player.
Edit: you probably don't see too many layups and dunks in kids basketball either.

You ever tried "encouraging" a teenage girl? I relegated myself to scorer so I didn’t "encourage" loud enough to be "embarrassing "...

When I played GA or GS, I would do "layups". They're more like finger rolls, basically just jumping put-backs.
I think the rule against dunking might be touching the rim being banned? Not that it really matters...
My daughter plays, I watch and enjoy it cos she's playing. I can even watch the pros play. Doesn't stop me from the realisation that many of the rules are daft
