Yeow. But for the dropped catches we would have been well in it. Was closer than I expected and some near misses with 3 or 4 overs remaining.

    Outplayed.

    Well done Pakistan.

I do prefer the two sides in the other semi, but Pakistan were my smokey choice prior to the tournament starting because of their bowling.

Impressive bowling backed by their fielding. What an opening partnership! Nine T-20 century partnerships for those two. Three in T-20 WCs.

    Black caps arghhhhhh

    Outplayed in all facets tonight.

If we'd taken all our catches, though, we likely would have won - despite that our bowlers were pretty sub par.

    Not able to exert pressure.

So Pakistan's batting lineup is extremely flaky. Basically, they all suck except for Babar and Rizwan. If Conway takes that (pretty regulation) catch at the start then Pakistan are in trouble with the chase. So I agree with the statement that but for dropped catches we would have been well in it. Gutted that we decided to have our worst fielding performance in a long time in a WC semi final.

Low and a full dive going against his weight - no way that was pretty regulation.

When you have an under par score in a do or die match, you have to mix it up with the bowling with playing one of your slower bowlers early.

Once again Sodhi and SatNav go for less than the required RR (6.5 rpo) and our 3 quicks get tapped around for 8+, 7.5 and 9+

    Just doesn’t make any sense.

We dropped 1 catch early, and 1 late that didn't matter?

For me, we lost it with the bat. Left 15-20 runs out there and that set the tone

Definitely our worst fielding performance in some time. Yep I thought Pakistan had a flaky middle order that we had to put under pressure. But we let them off the hook...

Not for a part time keeper I guess. But an actual keeper should take that pretty much every time, in fact I'd expect them to get two hands to it. Conway made that look hard, I've taken plenty of low catches to my right and I'm nowhere near professional level, they aren't that difficult with gloves on.

The death batting was disappointing but I thought we still had a score to defend. But we needed to come out buzzing in the field and bowling to a field. We looked flat and pie after pie, the game was being taken away from us.

I expected better from us in the second innings

@ACT-Crusader agree completely. Pakistan's strength is their bowling and we managed to put a score on them, and then didn't fire a single shot in the field against a pretty average batting lineup. The 2nd innings was by far the most disappointing.

Disappointing from start to finish. Intent and execution.

    Sad!

I actually think that the batting in the power play was more disappointing. We weren't getting enough boundaries which resulted in risky running and Conway getting run out. Neesham and Mitchel both had acceptable strike rates, Williamson and Conway did not. I really don't think both those batters should be on the top 3.

Not making any sense is the worst part of last night. Our strategic thinking is strange. How is it that when a team bowling first has shown the way to frustrate the bats we go and do something different.
Slow, slow Yorkers and wide of the crease. Make the bats have to create their shots and they will get it wrong after a while.
Boult and Southee are fine bowlers but not in these conditions. Where were the part timers with some dibbly stuff?
Kane seems to have one plan and is lost when it doesn’t work.

Pakistan were good but jeesus christ would have been nice if we turned up and actually tried to win.

    Such a timid, lacklustre performance.

I don't think anyone was really suggesting dropping Kane was an option, but I do think potentially changing captains is (in multiple formats). The guy is an elite player but I am not convinced on strategy.

To be fair he was also let down by execution of other players last night too, so not lumping it on him, but I think the above is a valid conversation at least.

I am happy that I bailed on this early.

I'd like to see a change of coach too, at least in the white ball formats.
