That’s a poor decision. Surely that was out.

I thought the ball had completely cleared the line, but like tennis it only had to be a blade of white grass and it’s in…
Happy for Japan, but geez that would be massive talking point if it was Spain that was being knocked out!

I have so many student emails explaining that ‘they might have Covid and need the morning to go see a doctor’ that I may as well cancel my classes today.

And Belgium's "golden generation" crashes to an end with only 1 goal all tournament.
That's what they get for not being French or German or Dutch.
Except today, they are more German than either of the other 2.
-
It's sort of funny how all this stuff now comes out. I know SFA about the game but I wouldn't have expected us to beat either Euro nation and no idea about Tunisia. According to the maths we were going to finish bottom of our pool...
I take no particular joy in it beyond qualifying. We're $14 to beat Argentina so we're essentially fucked.

i would have said that was a mile out, apparently the whole sphere of the ball needs to cross the line, not just at ground level though....
-
and just like that after failing to deter USA from joining the party of 16, the last remaining European Axis power was scuppered and Japan goes it alone..
-
A fun fact from ESPN: Japan scored 4 goals in the group stage (by 3 different players). They all play in Germany.

Problem seems to be the rules not the decision.

@Crucial or how few people knew the rule, that does seem a bit ridiculous though

Yeah. I didn’t know but I dont follow wendyball.
Usually if a rule looks stupid it is.
Can a ball cross “the plane of touch” in the air and come back into play (like a curving kick)?
If the whole ball must cross the line for a goal the this instance look like play on to me. -

No different from the NFL where they talk about the ball crossing the plane of goal

They couldn't hit the side of a barn. Lukaku was extremely wasteful. How many chances does a pro footballer need?
