It follows the example of the NZ Barbarians Schools team in XVs. The past few squads also had club players who had already left school.

I guess they are now more age grade (U18) teams than a schools' teams, despite the name of the tournament.

Yeah, and you forget how young some of these players still are. Smith, Hutchinson and Williams were all in the NZ U19s. Both Smith and Wrampling-Alec were in the Chiefs U20s this year and could be for another 1-2 years.

    Same as last year then.
I think they decided to make it U18 and attended school during the year.

The surprise girls team of last tournament (Central Storm), who beat Condors in the first round and made the final in their first year, has lost two players to NZSS. The coaches daughter has made the NZ Māori team as well.

Good academies are the biggest attraction and put you in constant contact with decision makers. They are the curse of the smaller unions though.

Team namings for the World Schools are coming thick and fast now the NZ sides have done their cherry picking.
Have to applaud the organisers as this is one hell of a lineup of teams from around the world.
Not just Oz and the pacific but Scotland, Wales, SA, Japan.....will make things really interesting.
I won't re-post everything here but the World Schools Socials are the place to go to see squads at the moment.

Still waiting to see the NZ Barbarians, Cavaliers, Asian Barbarians and Warriors teams. I'm curious to see if some current 1st XV players are in the latter.

Their socials can be a bit haphazard. You get nothing followed by a slam. I guess it is a one person job and they have other duties. The website hasn't really been updated in ages.

I thought I had seen something about the Warriors team on another feed and going by this the selections are done for a few other teams that haven't been published as well.

Two names from CM in the NZ Cavs

    Home | Counties Manukau RFU

    Home | Counties Manukau RFU

CMRFU Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union Steelers Heat

"David Kama and Joey Taumateine of Wesley College will be playing for the NZ Cavaliers."

It's interesting to see who is involved in the coaching staff of each team. There are some big names there. For example, Waisake Sotutu is the coach of the NZ Fijian Girls team, and Mark Nawaqanitawase is one of his assistant coaches. DJ Forbes is the NZ Fijian Boys coach.

Carlos Spencer is part of the Cavaliers coaching group.

@Bovidae quite a few coaches use this as a showcase for themselves as well. Mainly those at School coaching levels or those that will freelance.
