The film was pretty understated in it's hung-ho, rah, rah America side of things. Much more on a personal level really. The only hung-ho bits I reckon were on his rationalising why he joined up in the first place. Like a few others I was not queuing up to see this film but was glad that I did see it in the end. At least I know what a power drill is for now.

So the film sounds like a nice alternative.

Yeah, book was way more rah rah then the movie. He came across as an ass in most of it.

I cant recall if it was that kind of vibe in the film, I know some arent (Zero Dark Thirty) whereas others fit the hoo-rah type (13 Hours, Secret Soldiers of Benghazi)

My 13 Hours cut will be more Blackhawk Down than rah rah and definitely no cheese. I'm getting an ex student who now works for us to teach me how to use the editing equipment - it's a bit more complicated than iMovie.

I liked the book, agree 100% about the USA USA stuff. But it still opened my eyes a bit to what it was really like in Iraq.

That's My Boy.

This movie has no redeeming features whatsoever. Starts with the premise of statutory rape of a 13 year old and goes downhill from there all the way to incest. How the fuck they got Susan Sarandon and James Caan to join this Adam Sandler trainwreck is unknown.
