Nichols at four and Mitchell at five. God help us.

I think they’re backing Nicholls to come good. Young just hasn’t shown enough but I thought he’d be in opening with Conway at four personally. Nicholls career trajectory is sliding towards the Astle/McMillan/Styris bracket, you know, good without being great. ( Latham too to be honest )

Will be interesting to see if Johns son can continue the incredible work he did in England. I suspect that was a freak occurrence and normal transmission will resume.

Yeah I suspect John's son has over achieved so far, but happy to be proven wrong. I rate Astle etc ahead of Nicholls. IIRC the purple patch Nicolls went through coincided with him being dropped a dozen times per innings.

Yeah Nichols ability to bust out a mammoth innings when he’s on the verge of being dropped and nudging the test average over 40 again can’t be ignored !

Talk about a token effort opening with the captain and the lovable Wags. Just three overs between them !

Mitchell at five is great. Nicholls at four not so much…

Needed Mitch to hang on to that chance from Azam though.

In future years, doing a statsguru query on Wagner. Today will count as him being a new ball bowler, rather than his usual 1st or 2nd change .

That was an opening spell with the new ball of 1 over.

Back to the Cricket. We're obviously not praying to the right deity as Pakis hit 2hundy for 4.

    Babar Azam reaches 3 figures.

My fault. Turned off for family commitments.

What a drop though, from 12 to 161 and counting...150 runs is painful

I dont really expect NZ to pass 300 once this series, so I'd say game over already.

Although I'd say a 0-2 ws odds on anyway, so no big hot take.

May be being too pessimistic, but they've earned by pessimism this last 12 months.

Taylor retiring and Boult and Jamieson not available has left the team looking vulnerable…….but there is enough class to compete.

The form drop is alarming though.

Righto, so far Sodhi and Patel are a waste of space, Mitchell gave Pakistan a few pies which was kind of him, Bracewell has massively overachieved and Southee and Wags might be on the verge of a breakthrough, which would be nice.
