    Glass Onion

About as many layers as 2-ply toilet paper

If the money spent on it is correct then this could be the vanity project which brings Netflix down

Seen better performances and story in local an-dram farces

    Effects were good though

    2 gherkins out of 5 that’s shollot

You and I clearly aren't in tune with movie choices at the moment - I liked both this and Violent Night.

As for the money spent, it wasn't hugely expensive ($30-$40m), brought in $15m from a limited cinema release (might have made close to $300m if released properly) and has decent watching hours so far. So I don't think it's going to be the failure you're suggesting.

    From a US Forum

"Reportedly, NF paid $450M for two Knives Out films, this one and another forthcoming entry.

But, yeah, I, too am flummoxed by their spending considering Glass Onion only cost $40M to make…

Additionally, based on its one-week theatrical take, which was estimated at $15M, had they kept it in theaters for at least 30-days, chances are they could have recouped at least the cost of the film itself.
I am finding it hard to believe that they have amassed $450M worth of new subscribers just for this film alone… "

Seems a weird deal, Netflix must have been drunk when they made it. I guess they have some kind of metric they use when they make the offer.

Good for Craig and Johnson though as they apparently are getting $100m each, with a $40m budget (which I guess isn't the real budget once you factor in their salaries) on each movie I wonder where the other $170m goes?

Although the new subscribers comment in that quote is a bit silly, it's all about retention these days.

I’ve managed to live an entire life without ever seeing the first one.

The fern seems to have confirmed my decision was the right one.

watching Avatar on TV is a waste of time. That's not what it is made for.

But by all means, you blokes do you.

You at least have to watch it on the biggest screen possible in 3D. I first did it two months ago and had a good experience. It's about the visuals not the story.

In saying that I have no interest whatsoever in seeing the current one.

I know we have a GOM thread that gets plenty of action, but we should be in no doubt that the biggest curmudgeons on the Fern live right here, in the Movie thread.

What a bunch of pretentious gits most of you are.

There seems no harm in enjoying mindless zombie films, yet a big-screen visual spectacular is somehow beneath many of you.

Maybe take off your wannabe arty hats (berets probably?) for a second and appreciate something for what it is designed for.

A zombie who still has a mind would be terrifying I must say.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a pretentious Zombie movie though, can anyone recommend any ?

The Banshees of Inisherin: The latest movie from one of the McDonagh brothers. It was good, but I was a bit disappointed as it's been getting hyped so I expected a masterpiece.

I also saw the trailer by accident (breaking my no trailer rule) and it included all the funny stuff (which confirms my need for a no trailer rule).

I think we’re going next week, this review is devastating to read !

Hopefully you’re just really grumpy and it’s actually good ?

Did you even read what I wrote? I said it was good. 😉

Maybe my post has helped lower your expectations and it will be a masterpiece for you.

And of course I'm really grumpy.

In classic fern tradition I think I just skimmed, took offence and then reacted.

Apologies old mate, I expect better from myself !

Yeah. Nah. I saw the first one at the flicks and I would agree that it was visually brilliant but for me it relied solely on that with little in the way of plot or character development (save that Sigourney Weaver got more and more annoying) and once you realise that the CGI is really the only thing worth watching you need this to be giving you constant Wow! moments. Which of course is difficult and self defeating.

It then becomes apparent that it was a really shallow film.

@Nepia I thought it was a bit average, like it was trying too hard to be a bit different.

Some good bits, some funny bits, but overall missed the target.

I'd go maybe 3.2 donkeys out of 5 dull fluffybunnies
