Blundel maybe done a groin he won’t be Keeping tomorrow if he has.
And batting all he can do is stand and deliver.

Two other keepers in the team.

    You're welcome.

Bracewell might have booked his place in the team all summer with that knock. Sigh…..

Waking up at 0-2 will do nicely though! I had to look twice and assumed for a sec they’d done Australian scoring !

That is better Bracewell be positive.

Geez Chris you knew he was going to have his one decent score after you and Damo bagged him, the buggers do that just to give us the finger I thing. He will revert to usual in future no doubt, though doubt he will get another test this summer, haven't we only got Poms at home? More back to our usual line up of 3-4 seamers and maybe a spinner who can bat?
I will leave it to the cricket men to advise me on expected line ups on home pitch.

I don't see a place at home for a marginal spinning all rounder in the test team. If I did see room then it wouldn't be Bracewell.

I would go with Sodhi and stick with him through thick and thin for a couple of seasons. To me he looks the best spinner by some distance, and we know he can hold a bat.

The last few years we have played 4 quicks because we are producing pitches that seam heaps but don't take spin even on the last day.
So unless we find an allrounder Bat/spin option to bat 5 or 6 we may revert back to the 4 seamers.
I understand why we do prepare pitches like that,But it means we aren't producing any real world class spinners,Which considering of the 9 major test playing nations 4 of them are from the sub continent where you need a couple of decent spinners. We are going to be touring there more and more.
Even now producing the wickets we do at home there is a possibility we don't get results if teams get through day 1 as the pitches latter even out to be roads on day 4 and 5 after the moisture we put in the pitch has gone.
Sub continent pitches see little water in preparation so they are Roads early then break up or stay low at the end of the test.
But while we don't have World class spinners we will keep producing the seaming pitches as we want to win at home. But as I said earlier we might get more draws if teams are not rolled on day 1.

It's going to be a very interesting selection at home.

NZ have, effectively, lost all of their old ball bowlers that have made them dominant at home in the era since 2014. CdG, Wagner, Jamieson, Santner.

There are several permutations that can try to plug that gap:

              • Proper spinner or spinner/allrounder
              • a new seam bowling all rounder
              • a new old ball seamer

But, we are effectively talking new guys, or imperfect fits, to fill the hardest roles in cricket. The socials will be ablaze this summer as new players get ripped apart by fans' 'hot takes'.

By this are you talking Murali/Warne or Vettori class ? I suspect you mean the latter. Hoping for the former is absolutely dreaming, but even the latter looks a forlorn hope with what we’ve tried and discarded.

@Damo Mate wasn't knocking the criticism, seemed bloody fair to me, just laughing at how they he then decides to get a decent knock at that stage, almost as if to say stuff you.:grinning_squinting_face:

Hats of to Bracewell, it was a pretty handy innings and definitely needed with the top order not going too good and Mitchell being unwell.

Yeah I was trying to motivate him by calling him a walking duck.

To be fair he did look clueless for his first half an hour then he got it together.

That takes courage and grit, which are often just as valuable as raw talent.

More back to our usual line up of 3-4 seamers and maybe a spinner who can bat?

By this are you talking Murali/Warne or Vettori class ? I suspect you mean the latter. Hoping for the former is absolutely dreaming, but even the latter looks a forlorn hope with what we’ve tried and discarded.

Warnie, murali are freak players I can't see us producing one to match them,But a couple of Vettori type players.
Lyons was average at State level and took a while to come right at Test Level.
Just have to try to uncover a couple with potential and stick with them but again that is down to the pitches at home.
Seriously even at Premier club level here you see a couple of spinners 1/2 dozen bats and quicks that would have the potential to succeed at higher levels who haven't made the step up as yet..
More in the Sydney comp,Melbourne and WA comps. And some decent spinners and bats in Adelaide.
I always try to hunt any out with a NZ connection to steer them home, easier said than done though.
