“Owner of a lonely heart”
Everyone knows it because it was a massive hit - after they sold out and teamed up with the Buggles FFS. Shittiest song they ever did. I guess they laughed all the way to the bank but talk about compromising your artistic integrity.
I was a massive Yes fan back in the 70's - had everything they recorded. Really orchestral pieces and enjoyed a great run of album chart success through the 70's and the occasional top 40 single even before Owner of A Lonely Heart.
I put an album of theirs on every few years and thinks fuck these guys are good - but within ten minutes I am bored rigid. In the main prog rock has not aged terribly well - but then neither have I.
I met Chris Squire once at his record label office in London. He was pretty rabid about his vegetarianism. Until I complemented him on hs nice boots

These would be my two favourite “tracks” of theirs ( I don’t think true prog rockers call their music “songs” ) showcases some serious talent amongst them.
I hear ya though, not something you can listen to all afternoon.
Meeting Squire would have been good fun, awesome bass player, I loved the tone he got too. Very grunty. Would not have picked him as a vegetarian though.

50 years ago today NZs first ever multi day music festival kicked off. Headlined by Black Sabbath and Fairport Convention it also featured the first ever performances by two iconic Kiwi bands Dragon and Split Ends ( later to become Enz)
It made international headlines coz the opening act Corben Simpson got his gear off and performed naked
I was too young to attend but I did convince the local record shop to give me their copy of the iconic promo poster which hung on my wall until I went overseas

I can only put that down to lots of offended Ferners who are fans of Celine Dion

As good as The Cult were (legit great band), there was a deeply shitty band from Ireland who were equally in magnitude as horrible - The Black Eyed Crowes. The cheesiest, crappiest shit imaginable. I get cringe hives even thinking about them. Horrifying. Like if the characters from Sons of Anarchy tried to form a southern rock band.

I genuinely love the Crowes.
I’m sure that’s who you are talking about …. But from Ireland?

I would explain that my taste in music is quite eclectic. I have a particular fondness for grunge music from the years 1992-1994, as well as for the band Metallica.
My favourite songs are:
- "Alive" by Pearl Jam - I love the raw energy and emotion in Eddie Vedder's vocals, and the song's lyrics about feeling alive and making the most of life resonate with me.
- "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden - I love the song's dark, atmospheric sound and Chris Cornell's distinctive voice. The lyrics, which are open to interpretation, are also quite intriguing.
- "Master of Puppets" - I love the song's heavy, intense guitar riffs and the way the band builds up tension throughout the song. The lyrics about addiction and losing control also resonate with me.
- "One" - I love the song's powerful, emotional lyrics and the way the band seamlessly blends heavy metal with orchestral elements. The lyrics, which are based on a novel, convey a powerful anti-war message.
- "Enter Sandman" - I love the song's iconic guitar riff and the way the band uses different tempos and styles to keep things interesting. The lyrics, which deal with nightmares and fear, are also intriguing.
