Is anyone else watching The Last Of Us? I know nothing about the video game so this is all new to me. Plenty of hype around this show, and the first episode was promising.
Good first episode. I do worry that the whole “zombie, post apocalyptic” stuff has been done to death a bit though, I hope it can maintain momentum and continue to be awesome. The Walking Dead got a bit stupid towards the end there, I didn’t even bother with the last three or four seasons.
Pedro Pascal is a pretty cool cat and is an engaging lead guy, even without the helmet. He must be busy though as I’m fairly sure Mando season 3 has just wrapped up as well !
Pedro has the distinction of never rating below 89% on rotten tomatoes too for a TV series which is quite impressive
Enjoyed the second episode as well, good start to this series
To go all pedant for a bit, only if you exclude Book of Boba Fett, of which a big issue with that show, despite the fanbois loving it, was how much time was devoted to Mando.

I had a bit of experience of the video game mainly through YouTube, as it seemed interesting.
Gripping stuff. 15yo daughter enjoyed it, starting around the same level as I. Even Mrs TA who knows nothing about the games enjoyed it.
18yo son confirms it was very good as a replay of the game.

During a few rainy days over the holidays I must confess to playing through a few of the recent Resident Evil games on Youtube ( as opposed to giving into my sons and buying a PS5 ).
Will do the same with this one.

SAS Rogue Heroes. BBC 6 episodes. The story of how David Stirling formed the SAS during the Nth Africa Campaign in WW2.
Made by the guys who did Peaky Blinders.
Very entertaining. Good soundtrack. Well cast. 4.5 tonnes of sand in my orifice out of 5 don’t fuck with me’s
Finally watched it, had to do track it down old style. Was a fun action show. To my question about how factual it is, well it's a bit all over the show. Stirling seemed too competent, Mayne too crazy and working class, and that chick too made up.
They're making a season 2 set on what they did in Europe.

any watched "Walker"? the texas ranger remake?
##spoiler
will finish the 3rd season....but im not sure i like any of the characters....and "walker" seems to exclusively work on cases to do with his family...throw them all in jail and crime in austin is cut in half
##endspoilerI watched the first episode only due to seeing the police chick in the ads for it on Stan, but I didn't make it past that episode.

Edit - it might help if I give some concept of a plot. Shipping company loses passenger liner for four months. Another of their ships finds it, devoid of passengers. Strange shit happens.
Surely that would be an ideal Netflix title...

Started Mayor of Kingstown, with Jeremy Renner (I know he is a firm fave to some here)
Started a bit slow, but is moving along now with some tough scenes in it, I see S2 has recently started too.
##spoiler
The one with the burnt child and then execution scene in particular was tough to watch

Yeah, that was a really good episode, and well-acted. From what I have read there were some changes from the game but it has the same impact. Bill's letter to Joel says it all.
Also renewed for a second season.
No surprises there. It’s terrific.

I'm enjoying the TLoU series. It's a great adaption of the game and it was pretty cool seeing some of the Bill/Frank story fleshed out. However, I do think the game's take on Bill's town is superior. The Joel/Ellie relationship is what makes the story and they've missed an important part of the two bonding in Bill's town and replaced it with a letter - which just isn't believable (though maybe it is if you haven't played the game). The sparring between Ellie and Bill in the game is good value too.

They do it well on the show too though !
Having not ever played the game but heard good things I’ve done a walkthrough on Youtube. Seems like they started faithful but have branched out a bit.
The bloke who plays Bill is excellent in everything he does. I remember him being brilliant in Fargo, the McDonalds movie and Parks and Recreation. You just know he’s always good value.
Pedro Pascal on the other hand is basically Mando without the mask ( perhaps thats why we find his voice so distinctive ? ) but he’s cool at what he does.
The episode is getting absolute rave reviews and rightly so. We really care about the characters and what happens to them.
-
@MN5 Yeah, the episode was really good. It may even pay off in the long run - but for me they'd have been better off sticking more with Joel and Ellie this early on.
Pedro is doing pretty well as Joel. I always thought Josh Brolin would smash the role out of the park - but Pedro is pretty good.
Actress playing Ellie is doing a good job too.
Be interesting to see how the Kiwi girl does when her time comes.
-
No ghosts, aliens, monsters, zombies or vampires, but the BBC is re-running Simon Schama's History of Britain in full HD, 16:9 glory.
Absolutely brilliant stuff.

Another good episode. I know CGI is pervasive these days, but it's really well done in setting scenes in TLoU. Especially that shot in episode two.

Absolutely. Perfect casting !
The fact his face is carved into a permanent scowl definitely helps.
##spoiler
What disease did Frank get ? Do I need to have played the game to know ?How come Bill seemed to have an endless supply of wine ?
I do get how he had a lot of ammo being ‘murica and all and the fact he probably didn’t get attacked TOO often…….
