Akl summers normally kick in at the solstice but absent so far. We had a wet winter, a wet spring and thus far a very wet summer. Rumours abound that it was bright and sunny when I was isolating with Covid but I cannot confirm.

They're also blaming last year's Tongan eruption.

    @booboo it’s very real.

Colossal difference between climate when I lived here 2000-2004 and now. Certainly warmer with better summers. Winter is still shit but many more cloudless days.

No one doubts that the climate changes over time. But is it natural cycles or due to CO2 etc. But it's a pointlessly debate now so can can we please leave it out (this is a great thread) as whats being done due to agw depresses and concerns me. One example. Land being converted to carbon sinks

@dogmeat yeah sounds like up here too...before Xmas we had some brilliant summers days, but about 4pm for 4 days in a row, heavy downpours, one day in particular the sideways rain was so intense, like nothing I had seen before, and pretty much over central Whangarei as Kamo didnt get a drop.

@Kiwiwomble And yet across the pond it was so bad that friends on a skiing trip in NW USA couldn't go outside. Resorts closed to prevent people dying.

the reason it was showing up on my feeds was we've just got back from 2 weeks in canada, its mad, on mountain we never really got above -3 to -5°, only 2 sunny days, the rest snowing on and off continuously

@taniwharugby I was just rung to say there are cars floating in Wairau Road here on the Shore. People don't understand how quickly floods develop if storm drains are blocked - I've learned by harsh experience.

Rain easing now though. I might try and head home soon.

@dogmeat doesn't help when the ground is already water logged either.

My sister sent me some similar pics the other day - the damn on our land overflowed and flooded the road. The regional council guy who locks the gate to the beach stopped to have a look and the flooding engulfed his car.

I was worried we'd be on the hook for the damage to the car but apparently we're all good.

Shit, Auckland is getting a hammering:

They've declared a state of emergency now. Been absolutely tipping down all day, then got even heavier this evening. Feel for those whose houses etc are getting flooded, not fun at all.

Wet, but OK thankfully. Some massive damage out there. Wettest day on record for Auckland by the sound of it

It was weird having a lovely dinner out in Auckland last night with all that happening around.

Lucky we had Elton tickets for tonight not last night. It won’t husky surprise me if it is canned though.

Apparently 3 people have died, 1 other reported missing.

This is gonna be a big one for insurers, don't expect this will be good for trying to keep inflation down.

    Where'd this event spring from?

    Ex-TC?

Was it the rain event we had a week or so ago, or another tropical fuck up recently?

Hope all northern North Island Ferners are OK.
