dont know how to feel about this, probably should just be left...but could be some very funny aspects to basil fawlty in todays world
Yeah I feel the same. The humour in the original is not politically correct by today's standards. A new series could be very amusing if it was able to push some boundaries, but it will either get itself cancelled by the outraged or it'll be too tame.
-
@Crazy-Horse yeah, started thinking they'd having having him struggling with things like airBnB, on line reviews, requests for gluten free or vegan breakfasts.....but all seems tame now i write it down...will still watch
couldn't even get away with Manuel now days
even the old sitcom format would date it

On top of that I imagined Basil struggling with Trans guests, people identifying as all sorts, all lives matter etc. Not sure how well that would go down.
-
@Crazy-Horse they can probably just dodge some of those aspects, no good way out of it and not inherently part of running a hotel
im also wondering how he has a unknown daughter, always thought he and sybil were loyal to each other, lost touch and reuniting after a very long time i can buy

For me the best parts of the original series was him going off about gay guests, swinging guests, German guests etc, all things that could easily be replicated with today's issues. And Basil would be struggling like hell with today's issues. I hope the series has the guts to push political correctness, but I am not holding out too much hope.

@Kiwiwomble I actually re-watched FT recently, and TBH I didnt find it as funny as I remember, even taking the period it was written and aired in, hasnt aged well I dont think.

I get what you mean but Basil is one of my all time favourite characters. Reminds me a bit of my slightly crazy boss who is on the spectrum. So I cut the show a lot of slack.

thats what im afraid of with lots of those "classics"...sometimes best to just remember fondly...i bought a box set of Hale and Pace for those that know or remember them....only watched the first 3-4 episodes before choosing to just remember them being hilarious
Black adder is the exception...will always be funny

It's funny, I'm the complete opposite - FT is still brilliant, OFAH is boring. It's so bloody massive over here too, every bloody Xmas I have to sit through that fucking auction episode.

I stupidly started watching the 1st ep of The Last Of Us late last night, a bit tired...
Only ended up watching about half of the 80 min ep, 1 cos I was tired, but man that opening part was pretty intense, had to watch an ep of Parks and Rec to chill before sleeping.
Kinda reminded me of the first or second ep of Fear the Walking Dead when the world was falling apart, both were really tense and compelling watching, and I think many post-apocalyptic series/movies fail to put more into this side of things.

@Bovidae was a good episode and they tied the 'newly created' villain in really well. The scene with Pedro behind the gun was a good homage to the same scene in the game.
##spoiler
Biggest disappointment from the game to tv was when they went through the tunnels. I was surprised they cut this short as it's quite an emotional part from the game.

The Last of Us is really well done isn’t it?
I’ve never played the game, no idea about any of the back story. Ep 3, to someone like me, makes no sense. Why was it there, what did it add? I should have hated it.
And yet it was still massively compelling. The Ron Swanson factor is always massive
, but it wasn’t just that. It was just a great piece of storytelling.
Up to Ep5 and hooked

Just finished bingeing S2 of Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon Prime. I know he’s a bit marmite but Jezza is genuinely good at flying the flag for British farming, with several quite touching moments. All the old characters from S1 appear and are in great form. Excellent.

Yeah see my only "issue" is I keep seeing bits like ep. 3 and going - well how the hell does that fit into a video game? Got to just enjoy it as a TV series but I do find myself doing that. It explained quite a bit about "outside" and how there just happened to be a random house they could go to for all the supplies they might need.

Ep 3 is pretty much a TV only add on, no idea why they did it, apart from to have a gay storyline in? It didn't advance the plot really, although it was great on it's own
