7 of the starting 15. Seems odd but I guess they just want to see what they look like at this level. Likely to only get half a game and then the eligible players get a run in the 2nd half

If he is he's his older brother that plays for Hawkes Bay. Hes had one start in 2021 (3 games as a replacement). Only 1 replacement game in 2022

@ARHS Kyle Brown is one of the Hurricanes U20 wider training group players. From Manawatū. Also played for Hurricanes U20 last year.

Aha cheers. I was hoping it was indeed a local player.

Yeah Kienan is Riley's older bro but definitely isn't the better rugby player.

I guess, hopefully we get to see the more realistic starting Hurricanes side next week against the Crusaders.

Completely forgot about him. If he's fit he will likely start. Maybe with Higgins if Sullivan is out too.

It adds a bit of interest for me this year with 2 young Wellington guns available. And to see if these new training facilities make a difference. Did Wellington move as well before last years NPC?

Nah they were still in Newtown I believe; the Phoenix men's side were the first to make the shift followed by the Canes at the back-end of last year.

@Winger Josh Taula is an interesting selection , hes is one seriously big human being , saw him playing for the Turbos against the Taniwha last year , is a very physical player could be a great long term addition to the Hurricanes.

@Tim He played for the Turbos in the 2022 NPC.
His selection is an indication of how many players aren't available.

@Winger Josh Taula is an interesting selection , hes is one seriously big human being , saw him playing for the Turbos against the Taniwha last year , is a very physical player could be a great long term addition to the Hurricanes.

                                    Article on Aumua and Coles

                                    https://www.msn.com/en-nz/sports/other/corey-jane-on-the-ball-of-muscle-ready-to-steamroll-back-into-the-all-blacks/ar-AA17lC5r?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=b312837518544dadba0af7587439eed1

While Aumua’s X-factor was never questioned, his ability to execute at set piece time has been his achilles heel. However, consistent minutes in last season’s NPC showcased Aumua’s growth in that area and could see him challenge Hurricanes teammate Dane Coles for the third hooker spot in the World Cup squad.

“I don’t know what goes on with the All Blacks but man, he trains his ass off when he’s with us,” Corey Jane said of Aumua on The Platform.

“Like I said it could be different with the All Blacks but when he’s here, you get into some tackle drills and he’s 100 percent every single time and he kind of makes everyone around him have to get to that level. Otherwise, being the ball of muscle he is, he’s going to hurt someone.

“Just that kind of stuff rubs off on everyone around him.”

Dane Coles will suit up for his final season of rugby with the Hurricanes this year and looks to be showing no signs of easing into retirement, taking the preseason trainings by storm.

“He is so awesome, he’s been so good in this preseason, especially this month we’ve just had after Christmas. He looks like a 21-year-old, he’s flying around everyone, we have to tell him to calm down because he’s just trying to get into everything.

“He’s had some tough injuries that are frustrating but again, he’s had an outstanding career and if you look at different players throughout eternity, that have played in sports and especially if we look at rugby, he changed the way that the hooker plays. Yes, Sean Fitzpatrick, he went out wide and (was) scoring tries but just how dynamic he (Coles) was as a hooker around the field and he changed the mould that everyone started to look for, a hooker that could do that...

Is Devery out for some time. And what's happened to O'Reilly. And surprised we don't have another good backup with Coles so injury prone but maybe they don't exist now

The Canes will need these two to be fit for the majority of the campaign if we are a chance.

                                          Agree.

Is Devery out for some time. And what's happened to O'Reilly. And surprised we don't have another good backup with Coles so injury prone but maybe they don't exist now

@Winger No news about Devery from the Canes at all and media not asking the question, so who knows? We only know that he's injured because he posted that photo.

I vaguely remember reading (several months ago) that O'Reilly needed surgery, but maybe I'm confusing him with someone else.

The backup for Coles and Aumua exists, but they need to earn a living and decided to do that overseas.

Kianu Kereru-Symes has gone to the MLR and Siua Maile to Italy. No doubt KK-S will return for NPC; Maile probably not.

Tuputupu still very young and yet to return from injury.
