    so, just had a 2 week trip to canada...very few movies i wanted to watch but saw they had season 4 of Discovery, another one i really enjoyed, another season with a very different arc to the ones before (maybe more in common with S3 than the other had in common), last few episodes dragged at points with people monologuing when things we very time sensitive, could have trimmed an episode off i think

    I really enjoyed, in a very nerdy way, the whole idea of communicating with a new race and how different it could be

    @Kiwiwomble BRING BACK THE BORG

    Starfleet was never meant to be Greenpeace

    (Haven't seen S4)

    @dogmeat isn't that literally what starfleet was? exploration rather than military, the first Enterprise barely had any weapons and several of the stories were about being outgunned and having to upgrade to protect themselves, i would be happy with a bit of both

    I did notice the future story line is lacking some of the old favs, both bad guys and goodies (borg, klingons), wondered it it was either trying to not just walk the same storylines as previous shows...or they were holding them back for big roles in future series

    I almost didn’t watch it, but was pleasantly surprised. The shit of the Titan leaving space dock was spot on, and Picard seems closer to his TV persona that the first two seasons.

    Of course they could ruin it all.

    Liked the fact that one of the characters was the actual daughter of the actor, nice touch.

    @Kirwan Interesting that they brought in a show runner who had worked on Trek before (Voyager, Enterprise), and dumped most of the new cast.

    It does help when the show runner (he directed the first episode too) has seen Trek before.

    Second episode pretty good too. A fair bit of padding though, and the new villain could get tiresome fast.

    @Tim yep, another good episode. The thing they have done is make Star Trek tv again, there have always been plenty of shit bad guys and hokey stuff.

    Here we had light action, good special effects, people talking through conflict and making plans and moral questions.

    It felt like a new generation episode made today, all I wanted. Picard is far closer the tv version now, back to being gruff.

    Shows getting better, actually some good acting going on too.

    Even better with the news that Disco has been cancelled.

    @Kirwan I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Discovery with Michelle Yeoh - despite it having so many whiney, woke, unlikeable characters - but gave up after it went all eco warrior save the Dolphins

    @dogmeat which season was eco warriory?

    s1 = shadow universe etc
    s2 = mystery of the rifts ending in time travel
    s3 = the burn and just working out the future
    s4 = gravitational anomaly thing

    you're not thinking Star Trek IV are you ;)...they're literally trying to save whales

    @dogmeat ok, must have missed what was eco warrior about it, i thought it was quite interesting to see how things can fall apart if you lost that easy connectivity and communication
