Into the all rounders now. Southee is due some runs and Henry has been in excellent form for NZ lately.

A first innings lead now would take some doing but be good to get within say 50-100.

Wow, I’m glad you’re not a selector. I think they’re firmly classed as “bowlers who can bat a bit sometimes”

Henry has got two fifties in his last six innings……but he’s also got three ducks in that period too.

Don't be such a negative nelly. At 27 this is the biggest partnership of the innings. Good things to come.

I’m just waiting for the usual suspects to come on here and have a go at Southee for not batting responsibly.

    You can't please everybody.

3 nicely taken singles in this over. Turning the strike over in sensible fashion.

The only surprise in a game going totally to script is, how on earth is it not raining in Wellington?

That’s exactly how good all rounders bat

It's not going to my script!

England's first innings wasn't far off expectation - though at 21/3 I hoped we might deviate from expectations.

But, we had stacked the batting and on paper it looks a powerful line-up - a deeply disappointing effort.

edit: Bracewell at 8 for this test is about the quality you'd expect.in that position. England has Broad.

Aside from Blundell (who is currently beating his average), our specialist batsmen are all averaging about 25 below their career averages in this series so far - except for Little Kane who is averaging 50 below his career average.

Last throw of the dice is Mr. Southee. After watching his 77* on debut I'd never have thought he'd play Test cricket for this long without scoring a Test Century. Thus, he is due tomorrow along with the in-form Blundell to bat us to a first innings lead.

From memory he got that score in a losing cause against England at home too.

Completely agree, Harbhajan Singh has TWO test tons for fucks sake !

There seems to be an air of pessimism about the forum at the moment, but the game is even stevens provided these two pile on the runs.

Glad I got to see our golden period, coz we’ve come crashing back to our usual mediocre rubbish cricket pretty quickly.

From Black Caps to Black Craps in a very short time. Might have to start watching reruns of the last CTC cycle instead

We can always take comfort knowing we won the first ever WTC.

If anyone can find any more straws to clutch at I’m all ears.

Oh, there’s one, we’re 21/3 now, so were England and look how they turned out !!!!

Thankfully winning the inaugural WTC is a ginormous straw to clutch that will last at least the rest of my life. Still have to pinch myself that we pulled that off.

    So basically a 300 run partnership ?

We still have Matt Henry to come and then Wagner is often good for a few runs.

I don't think we quite need 300 from these two. That is stretching credibility I think.

200 is more realistic I would have thought. Then when the bowlers are tired Henry and Wagner can cash in.

This reminds me of when Sir JK coached the Blues. Endless optimism.

I’m fairly sure Southee will come out swinging and hoping for the best and we’ll see what happens.

    A pretty good read this.

I’ve previously thought of Stokes as being overrated when reading some of the wankfests I’ve seen written about him but this is well thought out.

He’s obviously a hell of a captain. 10 out of 11 test wins ( and looking like 11 out of 12 cos the sun is out ) is an astonishing turnaround.

Southee SMASHING his way towards that follow on mark.

That @Damo sure knows his cricket !

Also just hit his 80th test six, some pretty big names right in his sights to chase……
