We really needed Bracewell to make 30+ and he didn't give himself a chance because of a schoolboy error.

it's as bad a dismissal as you'll see - and the consequences were massive. England were out of it; gift a wicket, adn three more followed.

    I'm still cross.

He must do a great job of mowing Stead's lawn because anyone else would be dropped never to play for the BCs again

Such a meek way for our innings to close - losing the last five wickets for 28 runs and, frankly, a lot of it is on Bracewell, given that Blundell ended up throwing his wicket going for a tenth wicket slog.

It's very annoying, given that we were just at the start of things getting exponentially more difficult for England.

258 shouldn't be tough on what I perceive this pitch to be.

300 might have given us a shot.

350 would have us in the game.

We really needed Bracewell to make 30+ and he didn't give himself a chance because of a schoolboy error.

    FFS!!!

To have them out there for 160 overs, will they cash in against a tired team... or, lose 4 wickets in 4 overs.m and gift the game?

Just caught it on the highlights.

    That was terrible.

My sons team would have all done better and I’m not exaggerating because they pretty much had a whole training session on it after some bad run outs last year. They learnt. Bracewell obviously hasn’t.

Kane's wicket was really unlucky too. There was spikes on the snicko before it hit the bat, then marginally higher spikes as it went past. Had to be the faintest of faint edges, I wonder if hotspot would have showed anything.

But yeah that run-out was absolutely a droppable offense at this level.

Unfortunately I think taking 2/54 is more than enough to keep him on.

There are some really really borderline calls that get overturned - the faintest of snicks is one; the impact or pitching in line/out of line is another. They can be incredibly tight calls, and they are some of the only bits that are binary (as opposed to go with umpires call)

Edit: I love DRS, think it's absoultly brilliant for the game. But the Kane dismissal really shows some of the corner case limitations. It's rare, but important.

    Well done KW.

Will all due respect to Rossco who was a hell of a caretaker this record belongs to you alone.

    Next target 10,000 !!!!!!!

If you were picking the best NZ cricket team of my lifetime most of the squad would come from the first 14 names on the highest run getters list - plus Bond and Boult - you could extend to 16 names to include Turner and give Macca a free trip somewhere!.

It’s a bit of a sad indictment on our cricket that Vettori is ninth on that list !

It wasn't televised, but his batting effort in the CWC Semi 2015 at EP was sensational. All the pressure, and he strolled out to the middle like it was a sunny afternoon at a park. Chatted to the Hairy Jav, then wound up slapping a few ugly runs and turning over the strike. The calming effect and confidence was massive for us.

    Also, 18 year career. Crazy.

    Que?

England currently throwing out a hugely negative field, partnered with horribly negative bowling.

Sorry, he came out and settled his partner during an ad break. I went back to watch because I was so impressed.

Obviously his actual batting was televised!

We'll lose by 4 wickets towards the end of the second session.

On a couple of occasions we'll look like we're one wicket from being back in it, but just not quite get there.

    Very tempting.

With the current balance of the side, if the spinner is batting 8 I'd very happily pick Ish Sodhi. Will be great if Ravindra can get into some consistent top form as well.

He’s played 18 tests in ten years. He’s a stop gap at best.

He’s also an effective T20 bowler against batting similar to the current England approach

That’s good to know but I don’t think we can draft him into the team on the last day of a test.

Outside of John Bracewell and Dan Vettori, lock-in spin options don't easily leap to mind in Black Caps history (and even then Stephen Boock was on the scene for Braces).

Ish's biggest issue is his consistency (and occasionally fielding), but he could still be good for a few years yet. His batting seems to have kicked on.
