@MN5 Turner
Wow, I’m genuinely shocked that Martin Guptill who had what I’ve always thought of as a short and unsuccessful test career is sixth !!
It was long and unsuccessful. He was just persisted with because he was good at shorter forms. His average his actually worse than it looks and padded against weaker teams.

Guppy should have played 5 or 6 in tests.

Nice to see Mitchell get a 100 on his home ground

I am happy to be wrong about him. I did not think he would be this successful.

Henry and Wags take a bow

Somehow we have a lead, Henry and Wags show
-
Henry passed Nicholls as he goes up the tunnel, perhaps he should introduce him to..

373 all out, tail wagged entertainingly

Good effort that considering where we were at one stage of the innings.
Great effort from Mitchell,Henry,Wags and Latham. -
Henry will get promoted ahead of Southee at this rate
the Sri Lankan tail won’t wag again, I feel we’ll roll them nice and cheap this time.
@MN5 well Southee opened with a great over, needs unit to back him up though
-
Great effort to get a first innings lead, but not really a big enough one to put us ahead of the game. Unless we absolutely skittle them we'll have a tricky chase, be interesting to see how the pitch holds up on days 4 and 5. Sri Lanka ahead purely because they batted first.

At least there's one Henry in the team that knows how to bat

Ish Sodhi and Matt Henry both average more with the bat than Michael Bracewell, so he really needs to take a bag of wickets and bowl tightly to justify his selection.

He needs to be dropped immediately

I agree. There are 4 or 5 better options

Sri Lanka.
Look to be well coached, well lead, disciplined bowling plans, scouting opposition batters.
This is what it must be like to have a head coach who isnt just phoning it in?
Our leadership took until their 5th test, and 10th bowling innings to come up with a plan for bowling to bazball.

Further to that - Why are the retirements of Watling & Taylor used as an excuse for Stead's poor results when their replacements (Blundell, Mitchell) have been superior players in the last 3 years and have outstanding 45+ career averages.
Fun fact, NZ also have 3 players who average above 50 in their test lineup - no other country in the world does.
Can't wait until Stead finally leaves so we can bring in a coach who can enable us to play to our full potential.
