My team for the second test, which I'm sure we won't pick (and expecting that the Basin pitch will look more green and dangerous than the reality), but here goes:

    1. Conway
    2. Latham
    3. Williamson
    4. Young
    5. Nicholls
    6. Mitchell
    7. Blundell
    8. Sodhi
    9. D Bracewell
    10. Henry
    11. Southee

With number 8 - 11 quite interchangeable in the batting lineup, and much more bowling for Mitchell.

Reality is probably Tickner staying for Young, and M. Bracewell staying instead of Sodhi on an illusion of batting deeper.

Was the throw that missed hitting the stumps at Wagner's end going to hit the stumps at the non-striker's end?

And if so, would it have made it there faster than the fella turning and throwing it?

And would Wags have been run out if it hit the batsman's end wicket? Not sure we saw a replay of that.

Have also seen suggestions that the bowler should have Mankaded Wagner... it was all on for that final delivery, but somehow we snuck through all the usual pitfalls 🙂

actually the video i posted shows Wags waiting for the ball to be released from bowlers hands before sprinting/hobbling

Excellent, I didn't think he'd stolen much ground, if any, but I guess the Sri Lankan fans were busy relitigating their options 🙂

Great to see Chad Bowes get a shot after scoring a ton of runs for Canterbury at the top of the order.

While no one will probably notice or care, we could actually be about to win the World Cup Super League.

Two wins guarantees we take top position and one win would mean we are likely winners but it could come down to run rate

    Probable team for first game:

    Finn Allen
    Will Young/Chad Bowes
    Mark Chapman
    Darryl Mitchel
    Tom Latham
    Glenn Phillips
    Micheal Bracewell
    Matt Henry
    Henry Shipley
    Ish Sodhi/Blair Tickner
    Lockie Ferguson

This Muhammad Abbas looks like he will be our next big thing. Wonder how long it is before he makes a squad.

Let’s forget the short stuff for awhile and remember we have a test starting tomorrow.

Is Bracewell straight in the team as a replacement for Wags ?

Does Nicholls get another shot ?

I could be completely wrong but I can easily see this SL team crumbling after their heartbreaking loss and get absolutely hammered this test to be honest.

    @MN5

Yeah all this ODI stuff confused me and I thought I'd got confused and it was just a one off test.

I don't think there's a replacement in the squad for Nicholls since Young was released, so I think he plays.

Bracewell is probably straight in for Wags.

    I agree

They were outstanding in how they dealt with pace bounce and seam. Repeating could be really hard

No just a bog standard “we’re not in the big three so get fucked” two test series.

Would it kill international cricket to have given us a third test against England and then three against SL ?

I like the Bowes and Fisher selections.
Bowes looks like another tough arsed Saffa and Lister looks promising good to see some new blood.

Unfortunately he probably will, and he’ll probably get a hundy which means we’ll be stuck with him for at least another 12 months.

Hoping D Bracewell plays today, for Wagner.

Apparently it was mentioned at time by NZC that he was unavailable, due to injury, at time they named the 13 man squad for England series - when Duffy and Kuggeleijn came in to the squad (although I didn't catch this). Therefore I have hope that unsteady Steady has him ranked ahead of Kuggeleijn.

Not ideal in terms of succession planning, as he is in that age range between Southee and Henry. But he is only 15 months older than Kuggeleijn, so .......

Got to make do with what we have. Could get 2 or 3 years out of him yet (or less if a domestic youngster can string more than 2 games together).

I’m fairly sure no one will be playing today
