@Nepia Rumours/whisperings don't always turn out to be true, but having said that Billsy is not usually wrong.

Ex-Lindisfarne Kinghouse Tupuola playing for Taradale. I'm surprised he's not in the HB academy. I liked what I saw from him, last year. Played both at hooker and loose forward.

I'm waiting to see whether the Tamatea line-up on the HBRU website changes, or not. Or until Tamatea publishes it on their socials. On the HBRU website, Lincoln McClutchie is listed at 10, which is weird as he's supposed to play for MP, tonight. The situation must be pretty dire squad-wise, if he has to return to the Bay to play for Tamatea tomorrow as well.

I'm disappointed about that. All the effort last Saturday night I made to bribe my way onto the bench obviously to no avail! I'll still be taking my boots though just in case!

Goodness, two of their locks have played 345 games between them. Interesting to note they also have a lot of players that have not played a single match for their Prems in their squad. Does your research indicate they are down from Auckland trying out for NPC spots as I don't recognise a single name amongst them? Looks like about three or four of them are starting tomorrow.

    @Higgins About Taradale's newbies:

    • William Fonohema is a first year HB Academy player out of Feilding HS
    • Kinghouse Tupuola (I mentioned him above) is an ex-Lindisfarne loosie, who also played at hooker for the school. First year out of school, too.
    • Levy Aiolupotea (midfielder) played for the HB U16 in the same year as Kereru-Symes, McClutchie etc. and made Hurricanes U16 tournament team and Hurricanes U17 training squad with them. He must have been in the Hastings Boy 1st XV squad with them, too, but I can't find much more info about him.
    • Halfback Ryan Spice is a local, too. I couldn't much info about him, but he played for Napier West in the Wakely Shield comp in 2016.
    • Junior Saufoi played for Tech, the last few years.

So the answer is no. These newbies are no rejects from other provinces trying for a spot in this year's Magpies squad.

    Clive's team to play Pirates:

Surprised to see Tyrone Chrystal at hooker. I thought he was still at school, but apparently not. Was very good for Napier Boys, last year. Should be in our academy, but he wasn't on the list published more than a month ago.

@Stargazer Thats good to hear, always great when our local talent decides to stay home and play. Fancy me not knowing about the last player you listed and rewatching the video can confess to not recognising the name or face! Still I'm sure I must know him if he played at Tech last season.
The guy from Feilding is showing as a hooker in that Taradale promo. Must be that some of the real good hookers already plying their trade might be moving on in the next year or three. I suppose you could aim that mainly at Tyrone Thompson as it would be silly for him not to explore great paying positions overseas if he is not called up to higher honours post William Web Ellis Cup.
Levi Aiolupotea shows as a loose forward in the video so he might have been somewhat young and small when at HBHS and filled out size wise later on?

That must be Pirate's first win in how long?

@Stargazer Tech was up 61 - 00 at halftime when I arrived from Taradale after my Colts duties (we lost 24 -10 but was meritorious after fielding just 14 players and having 2 in the bin at different times - lots of other kids sticking their hands up to come and play now that we have got a team that are up and running) but watching the remainder of the game it was almost inconceivable that the score was that big given the way Aotea went in the second half. Either my guys must have dropped off or Aotea hugely lifted themselves, probably a fair bit of both but just on the second half viewing alone there is no way the visitors were 70 points worse than the Altherm Texans. Not sure who got all the tries, and there were obviously plenty of them, but my last years Colts man Tane Hiha got player of the day for the Prems so that has given all us Colts officials from last year something to be very pleased about.
No Premier games next weekend but the Texans do take on @Stockcar86 Napier Old Boys outfit in a night game on April 12. God what I would give for a similar scoreline (in my guys favour of course) in that game!

Watched Tamatea v Taradale yesterday, easy win to Taradale 56-7 without having to play well.

Taradale scored first and then Tamatea equalised with a breakout try to level at 7-7.

Score should have been bigger but Taradale only converted 3 of their 10 tries. Used three kickers who goaled one each.

Ezra Malo looked good at first five with a running game, found the gap a few times, but his kicking out of hand and for goal was poor. He missed a conversion from in line with the left hand upright and missed another from 5m to the left of the posts.

Apparently Central's win over Hastings yesterday was their first win over Hastings since 2010.

@stargazer Did you happen to pick up on Joe Walding Karaitiana named on the bench for Havelock against NOBM? Last I heard of him he was plying his trade for Marist St Pats two or three years ago. Think he might even have had a run for Wellington against Auckland in a preseason game over on Evans Bay Park circa 2017ish that I happened to catch. Amazing how you can sometimes manage to fit work around watching rugby when necessary! I can recall he had big wraps on him during his HBHS days and made some decent teams but never really broke through at the top level for whatever reason
