If it is any consolation, maghemite has shown to be beneficial to some plant species and soil enrichment. I recall the Tube air having more of a sulphur smell than anything.

both of those are very interesting, the carrot thing i had assumed (as well as being a vegetable that rabbits world eat0 was some kind of smoking analogy, cartoon version of a cigar...thread does what it says on the tin

well compacted sand is great till it liquefies.
Seriously though, reclamation is hard. Singapore does a bit of it, so do the Netherlands. Dubai is a fascinating place - but I have no urge to visit
