@Old-Samurai-Jack if everybody is fit I'd love to see Gardiner get a decent run at 6 for the Saders. Just how they do that I am not sure. Grace 8, Gardiner 6, then it's Blackadder or Christie at 7.

Blackadder's best position is 7...he's a shit load better than Christie...

The thing about Christie he doesn't carry great,But he is the work horse, tackles stats are insane and great around the maul and ruck.

Grace,Gardner,Blackadder would be a real hard arsed LF trio I would love to see it.
Then depending on the opposition Christie,Lilo-Willie or Havilli who has been good this season tackles hard carries well on the bench.

Well yeah like you say, it's a bit like Pocock being a workhorse because his jackal stats were so good. If you're ignoring other aspects of the game, it's easier to jack up your stats in your "speciality".

@Cantab79 it's not just the Crusaders though is it? IIRC @Stargazer wonders if it's the added speed. I wonder if they are being more cautious with injuries and niggles this year because of the world cup.

@Crazy-Horse Yeah, that was me. Just thinking, more speed means more power going into collisions, increasing the chance of injury. Also more likely to increase the number of accidents.

I think most sides have comparable injuries to previous years. But a handful of sides have a lot more (in NZ it's the Crusaders and Highlanders)

It could be the speed but the uneven distribution makes me question that (surely it would be all sides). It could be something those sides are doing wrong. I'm almost certain it has nothing to do with being careful in RWC year.

I would lean towards bad luck

Teams have had worse luck in the past. Blues 2012 springs to mind when we had our 8 first choice locks missing to injury & cancer

@Duluth yeah may very well be right. Bad luck is probably the simplest answer.

Yeah not surprised. It's not like he's saving his energy for one of his block busting runs, or trying to move big bodies at the breakdown. He's a great tackler...

I think Christie plays his role well at the Saders. Not saying he should be pushing for higher honours but I don't worry when he starts. He gets his job done. I think the Saders missed him for much of the game on the weekend.

That article above said Newell is done for the year. I missed his injury news, is it just the Super season or has he been ruled out of consideration for the WC as well?

Nanai used to be very effective at accelerating just as contact was about to occur (reminded me a lot of a few league wingers) to break the line. He's always had very good vision as a fullback or wing.
