@Bovidae Tyrone Thompson will be playing for Napier Tech.

That surprises me as teams usually include a hooker in the extra players they take for away games.

@Bovidae Maybe he'll be flying from Dunedin to Napier instead of Hamilton?

Good to hear McMillan say that Daniel Rona has a contract in front of him. I don't know who they had in mind to replace Nankivell but Rona has done more than enough to earn a fulltime squad position for 2024 and beyond.

Has grabbed his lucky break with both hands.
His position as a fill in has meant that the coaches have given him plenty of game time and he has improved with every minute played.
Doesn’t look out of place at all and is right up there competing for the form centre position.

Three schools in three years shows how much school rugby has taken over as the development pathway from club.

I knew Finau had moved to St Peter's from Manurewa HS but didn't realise he'd been at James Cook HS first. Joe Rokocoko is another who originally went to James Cook HS.

@Bovidae great result for the Chiefs, hopefully he can stay injury free for most of that period.

Great result, I do like how well the NZR/Clubs etc are doing in resigning these players!

Unfortunately for Gatland, he might have played his last game for the Chiefs.

Looking ahead to Weber's replacement, I hope Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi isn't the no.1 option. He's past it. The other Dev halfback is Adam Lennox, which would be a selection for the future. It would also mean that Xavier Roe would be the oldest halfback of the three, and he would only be 25 at the start of the 2024 season.

Ratima and Roe are the obvious ones to move up the pecking order. It is a pity that Roe's injury has meant that the two have not been able to push each other this season. Ratima has looked good when coming off the bench but not as a starter.
Pity that the ship has sailed on Roigard but that is just unlucky timing.
The call on a third will depend on readiness. Has Lennox overtaken Crowley at Naki yet? If not then keep him in the WTG but the backup of TTT might still be required.

Ratima was terrible against the Reds, slow to the breakdown and spent a large amount of time at the back of the ruck waving his hands unsuccessfully trying to draw penalties whilst allowing plenty of time for the Reds defensive line to fuse into an impenetrable wall...

A surprise as he's been very effective off the bench and added quite a lot of impact in prior games, maybe just a bad game but gracious me - a hard watch.

Shows how the starting/finishing roles are different.
A halfback sets the rhythm for the game. Ratima seems to be able to pick up and continue an established flow but if he has to set it he brings too much other stuff to the party.
