    @Bones

    So it’s no longer just elite sport. This could suck the life out of women’s sport at all levels and more worryingly age groups.

    Saddening and maddening

    If they can find a thousand classifications for paralympic sport surely to god they can get two for women's sport

    Real and pretend

    @MiketheSnow I used to think this, but I think they’ve got it all wrong.

    Men’s sport needs to ensure it’s welcoming for men dressed up as woman. If the argument is transitioning takes away some of your men advantages, well whose problem is that?

    The whole worlds? Or yours?

    You have women's sport or you don't.

    Simple.

    @Bones I wonder if some men are doing this deliberately in order to have this travesty addressed once and for all

    Unfortunately identifying as a woman gives that person the 'right' to choose where they compete

    Doubly unfortunately they are choosing to compete as women

    This is a governing body issue plain and simple

    Trans cyclist Emily Bridges seems really wound up by this. I'm tempted to say it's probably the testosterone - but won't.

    @MiketheSnow

    I just did some googling and she's trying to talk out a Bill which would outlaw life-changing and irreversible surgery, puberty-blocking drugs and hormone therapy for under-18's - i.e children. You can do what you like after that age.

    She regards protecting kids in this way as hatred apparently

    So close but ...

    Female races will be "for those whose sex was assigned female at birth".

    And

    Transgender women will be able to participate in non-competitive recreational and community cycling without restriction.

    British Cycling said its women-only community programme "will continue to remain open and inclusive for transgender women and non-binary people" who can "continue to participate in a broad range of British Cycling activities in line with their gender identities".

    Firstly, your sex is determined at conception.

    Secondly they're continuing to be unfair to non-elite women.

    But it's a start.

    All this crap about there being no research is rubbish. There's plenty of evidence of male athletic advantage, and confirming what we already know inherently. I think it's more "There's no research giving the results we want".

    And the proposed study on Emily theyself is designed with the specific outcomes in mind that will be manipulated.

    @booboo

    Family member is an elite Ultra-marathon runner. Tells me that at ultra distances the gap between male and female is pretty non-existent. Also tells me there's minimal pressure from activists to allow male trans athletes to compete in the women's races... Can't think why.
