Have close family members who have been happily gay for decades who've told me the gay community is getting uneasy about trans women (i.e with penis) demanding they be regarded as lesbian by the gay community.

As to the teacher, it seems the mental illness is spreading. A good dose of unemployment should help fix it.

There's an organisation called Stonewall behind much of this. Started off as gay rights lobby/charity but has morphed into a trans-rights-above-all, sexual rights education group. They had a "Diversity Mark" which big firms were keen to sign up to signed up and paid them to give courses to staff. They also heavily influenced government on LBGT rights
Been banned from a lot of organisations after they argued that it's transphobic and akin to racism for a lesbian not to want sex with a trans woman with a penis and compared it to apartheid (yes, really) link

Stonewall is mainly self-financing, IIRC. Makes its money from training companies and organizations to be certified "Diversity Champions".
