i really liked Batfleck in the end...watched Batman the animated series and batman beyond and always felt physically he fit that vibe
I'd go as far as to say while the Nolan batman films are great....i dont actually look back on Bales batman fondly
affleck is like tom cruise for me...in that i think the actor seems like a bit of a dick...definitely wouldn't have a beer with them...but find myself enjoying their films more often than not

Shakespeare in Love is probably high on the list of worst Oscar winners IMHO, especially in comparison to what should have won.
Never said or meant to say it was Oscar-worthy.
Same for Green Book, ok movie, not Oscar winner standard.I don't understand the Affleck hate, I like most of his stuff (especially the stuff he directs). Actually I guess I do understand, there's actors I can't stand (like Clive Owen) that other people like yet I find him almost unwatchable.
Films like Argo were touted as masterpieces so if people didn't agree they often got upset. And those Batman-Affleck movies were either badly cast or just bad.
Where are you hanging out? Even when it won the Oscar I don't remember people claiming it be an unimpeachable masterpiece. I don't think there was a stand out that year so any number of films could have won.
Affleck isn't the problem with those movies - Snyder is.
Also, I never said Shakespeare was a bad movie either, just that it was a bad Oscar win.
Shakespeare beat Saving Private Ryan. That alone shows what a joke the Oscars can be. Harvey was obviously lashing out more than just his schlong at that time.

I love this movie and to this day can still watch it and pick up something new. Even Ben Afflecks boyfriend being in it doesn’t put me off.
Spielberg is a moviemaking genius. How ANY OTHER MOVIE was considered better in the same year is absolutely beyond me.
Speaking of which, finally seeing the new Indiana Jones with the boys tonight ( school holidays and they’ve been too busy to spend time with Dad until now ) so keen to see how it goes without the great man at the helm.

Maaaatt Daaaamon isn't in it that much. Ed Burns annoys me more. And that he survived when all the cool guys were killed. Glad that guy and his shitty films have all but disappeared.
Spielberg was the absolute GOAT. Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, Indy 1-3, Purple, SL, Ryan, Jurassic Park. Hasn't done anything for a while though.
I refused to see Indy 4 and am fůcked if I'm watching the latest one. Seems like it's bombing worse than Dresden so I'm clearly not the only one who considers it an epic pisstake.

https://spotlightreport.net/featured/afflecks-new-masterpiece-argo-movie-reviewEven when it won the Oscar I don't remember people claiming it be an unimpeachable masterpiece. I don't think there was a stand out that year so any number of films could have won.
I'm not attacking you, I am just explaining why I think some people don't like Affleck.
Affleck isn't the problem with those movies - Snyder is.
Affleck is "the Batman", the Batman in a corset who phones in his lines. And he was in Gigli. And he got lots of media attention for the Lopez and Garner times..
Also, I never said Shakespeare was a bad movie either, just that it was a bad Oscar win.
But my original comment was to MN5 about Affleck: "Anything with Ben Affleck is unwatchable"--I didn't think so in Shakespeare in Love. I'm not saying that is a legendary Oscar-level film at all. I'm ambivalent about Affleck, he generally just seems uncharismatic and unenthused, in my opinion, as opposed to actors who actively annoy me.

I like him. He’s pretty damn cool in my opinion. Paradoxically enough I agree with you on his movies though. Too independent and “talky” for me.
I liked him in this though….
He came right in the end and fought well when they were defending the bridge.
I’ve heard Indy 5 is way better than 4 so I’m hoping for the best.

You're testing my love Bro. I'll get over it but it will take time....
There are only 3 Indy films. I take "Last Crusade" literally. I would rather them reboot the franchise like Bond than have Harrison Ford shuffle round. Now if they were to reboot the franchise with Short Round then take my money! Instead they have that weird looking pommie chick.

The end of Last Crusade was fitting. They should have left it like that.

@MN5 as much as i enjoyed the new one...this is correct
and my general feeling is if the stories they come up with are good enough they shouldn't need to make it an indiana jones film, take the same story and change the name of the main character, eg National Treasure...if you need the fan boys to come in then its probably not a good enough film

After finally watching the much hated Indy 4 last week (after seeing 5 at the movies) I actually thought that the ending of that was fitting too.
But as a non Indy uber fan my thoughts on the franchise are pretty irrelevant to how others view it.
As an aside I listened to Fatman Beyond podcast the other day and even Kevin Smith was pretty negative about some of it (he's usually positive about stuff as he choses not to discuss stuff he doesn't like) but all of the stuff he was suggesting would improve it I disagreed with (mostly nostalgic stuff). Then Mark Bernadin did his criticism and I agreed with all the stuff he said and now Indy 5 is slightly less good in my memory.

Funnily enough Argo has a much better Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience score than I thought it would have. Maybe it's better than I thought.
I think Affleck is fine as Batman in poorly scripted and directed films (as a non Snyder fan).
Point taken on Shakespeare in Love in relation to Affleck as opposed to film itself.

She's a slow old day when Ferners are having a heated discussion about the historical quality of Shakespeare in Love
I'm enjoying the change, as the anti Fozzie, anti Super rugby, sky is falling on NZ rugby tone of this place has worn me down a bit in recent weeks.

Could be worse. We could be discussing Sliding Doors...
