Saw this at the cinema. That opening sequence is astonishing. I remember feeling almost in shock after the film was over. Had never really seen that level of graphic and realistic violence in a legit film before. Only issue was the ending. Got too Hollywood unfortunately. But otherwise one of my favourite films.

I agree. That opening scene on the beach was absolute white knuckle stuff. It pulled no punches and felt so real, like you were there

Spielberg went on with it in Band of Brothers. As companion pieces I'm not sure you will find finer work on WWII
Then had a slight dip with The Pacific, hopefully the new one about the bombers is up to BoB standard.

Yeah I didn't like TP. Thought they tried to cover too much, characters weren't as likeable

BoB could be adapted straight from the book. TP was trying to link multiple books and sources. Should have focussed on one book. E Sledge's book alone would have made for a great series.

I didn't realise TP was based on multiple books, but that makes sense because it lacked cohesion

Even Mat Damon being in it didn’t ruin it for me. Amazing film.
Yeah that opening scene was something else. Those allied soldiers getting out of the boats and being mowed down like that was shockingly real.

Wow, I don't even remember him in it
He was one of the original guys who went after Private Ryan. First one to die. I’m fairly sure that’s the first movie I ever saw him in.
Off topic a bit but I don’t actually mind him ( was gonna write VD but that didn’t seem appropriate )
Tom Sizemore and Edward Burns were the ones I liked the best although definitely one of Tom Hanks best performances too. Everyone nailed their parts superbly.

You don't remember this scene?
I liked Barry Pepper's character as the sniper. There were heaps of well-known actors with minor roles in this movie.
Yeah he was great. Tom Sizemore as sarge was probably the best though. Pity these guys followed it up with a monumental amount of shite.
Ted Danson and Bryan Cranston are also in the film.

I think I mentioned it in the RIP thread but Tom Sizemore has been in THREE films I would consider masterpieces. This obviously but also Heat and True Romance
