Even
Mat DamonVin Diesel being in it didn’t ruin it for me. Amazing film.Haha. I thought Vins death scene was very poignant actually, it was before about 50 million fast and furious movies though.

Wow, I don't even remember him in it
He was one of the original guys who went after Private Ryan. First one to die. I’m fairly sure that’s the first movie I ever saw him in.
Off topic a bit but I don’t actually mind him ( was gonna write VD but that didn’t seem appropriate )
Tom Sizemore and Edward Burns were the ones I liked the best although definitely one of Tom Hanks best performances too. Everyone nailed their parts superbly.

You don't remember this scene?
I liked Barry Pepper's character as the sniper. There were heaps of well-known actors with minor roles in this movie.
Yeah he was great. Tom Sizemore as sarge was probably the best though. Pity these guys followed it up with a monumental amount of shite.
Ted Danson and Bryan Cranston are also in the film.

I think I mentioned it in the RIP thread but Tom Sizemore has been in THREE films I would consider masterpieces. This obviously but also Heat and True Romance

Yeah the Sniper was cool too. Fuck, ALL of them were really…..even the cowardly translator redeemed himself at the end.

@Rancid-Schnitzel yeah I still remember seeing this at the movie theatre too, that opening scene with the movie sound system immersed you totally in that scene with sounds coming from all around, was both thrilling and absolutely terrifying to think what it might have been like for a soldier at that moment.

I watched this on VHS with my Grandfather one afternoon. He said the realism and attention to detail were just amazing having been a WWII veteran himself.

Natural Born Killers and Black Hawk Down are great as well. I think he ended up doing porno films.

I rewatched it again recently, like SPR (and BoB) so many of the supporting cast have become much bigger names since then or they're familiar faces from lots of TV shows. There was the Dad from Modern Family, Jamie Lannister, Tom Hardy, Jeremy Piven, the Welsh guy who played Reed Richards in Fantastic Four, the guy from Hannibal TV series, the guy who played Tig in Sons of Anarchy, the Dad from Cougar Town etc.
Also character actors like Jason Isaacs, William Fichtner and Sam Shepard.
-
Generation Kill is another excellent one.

@Nepia Eric Bana was pretty much any unknown then (outside of Aust/NZ and The Castle), and most probably thought he was from the US.
Oh yeah, I forgot that was his first overseas big role, according to wiki it was a year after Chopper and Russel Crowe recommended him to Ridley Scott.

Eric Bana says hold my beer
Edit: oops, lazy reading, Bovidae mentioned him earlier

Also, to be a pedant I did say supporting cast - I reckon Bana was one of the co-leads with Hartnett.
