    No Logan Henry is an interesting one. Perhaps he got a better offer at the last minute?

    Similar take by clubrugby.co.nz, why wasn’t Pettett and Logan Henry selected? Henry is far better than Howling.

    For the first time since 1982, the Wellington Lions will head into the new season as defending National Provincial Championship winners and Ranfurly Shield winners. Today a 40-strong squad has been…

    No Pettet, which is a surprise as he played very well during the two Ranfurly Shield games. NZ provinces are short on tall locks so sitting out a 2 meter lock is weird IMO.

    @cgrant something makes me think he picked up a serious injury as he hasn’t been selected in the Wellington B squad either.

    Either that, or he’s chosen to play for another province.

    Or they wanted to officially name TJ for some reason. TJ is injured and pulls out soon, Henry comes in?

    @Duluth I think they're talking about the lock (Pettett).

    @Stargazer

    Ok, I skipped a post

    Point still stands on Henry. TJ is rumoured to be injured and they'll probably need another halfback

    Interesting that Pettett is standing in the background watching the Lions train in one of their social posts. Maybe he is injured but surely he should have been named like all the other injured players.

    Looks like your only route into the lions from hobm is if you can supply the gear.

    Interesting seeing Alex Fidow named in the Wellington Samoan squad. Would suggest he didn't make an NPC squad? Interesting I always thought he was a pretty good player, even at Super level.

    @foobaNZ

    Last time people were posting about him he’d switched to league in Queensland and looked like he’d lost weight. That was late last year, I presume he’s only just come back?

    @Duluth he was playing off the bench for Ories this year and was actually spending some time in the backs.

    He’s lost a tone of weight but I’m sure if he finds the right position he could make a professional come back at some point. Don’t think it will be in the front row though.

    He could be a good hooker (played there in one game during the U20 RWC).

    I was hoping the info provided to fans might have improved under Ellison and Paku. Sadly it's worse. No details on player stats on the lions website. And team announcements are last minute. But maybe I expect too much. This would involve some extra work and we can't have that. Instead just do the bare minimum to get by.

    I suspect they don't have a comms person at the moment t. The role is split 50/50 between Wellington and the Canes. Pays like shit. Don't tend to keep staff for more than a season. The ad was posted in mid June. Even if they found someone. I doubt they would be in place now https://www.wrfu.co.nz/news/position-vacancy-communications-and-content-manager

    That job description is a bit bonkers: https://www.wrfu.co.nz/fileadmin/user_upload/Job_Advertisement_Communications_and_Content_Manager_7_.pdf

    Quite a few jobs rolled into 1 there...

    Blackwell's a strange situation. No announcement that he's leaving and thanks etc. Just played in the SRP quarter final and that's it.

    I know he's off to Japan? but ...

    it would have been Asafo Aumua (at hooker) but he pulled a calf at the weekend and is out for 6-8 weeks.

    @Winger NZ rugby seems to be a joke from the top down in that regard. My club does media ten times better, surely it's not that hard?
