It was always on the cards, as he wouldn't sign a new contract and would have walked on a free next season. Typical of Daniel Levy that he probably screwed a few extra million out of the deal, but left no time to buy decent players and give time for Ange to integrate them before the season starts

So no real surprises after the first weekend except for Newcastle giving Villa a real towelling.

All the new boys lost - Burley knew life will be harder at the top table but 3-0 to Citeh isn't a disgrace. Luton did OK despite the score against Brighton but everyone (most) that have them and Sheffield going straight back down will have seen nothing to make them change their minds.

Bournemouth looked on paper to have improved and he draw at West Ham seems to have confirmed that.

The rest of the transfer window is vital for so many clubs. West Ham really need to do some business. Everton need to find a striker. Fulham and Place need to hold on to their chief assets. You can see from their draw why pool and Chelsea both want Caicedo.

I would be more worries for Fulham except I think the two promoted teams and Wolves look pretty done already.

There were some notable absentees in some of the squads for Match Day 1, so expect some of these players to be moving.

It was funny to hear the commentator say that Matt Turner was still an Arsenal player on Wed and then played against them (for Nottingham Forest) on Sat.

Struggling to get into football this early, but saw a bit this avo. Brentford / Spurs a cracking match and I think both will be happy with a point. Away to Brentford is not easy as is hosting Spurs.

Liverpool / Chelsea both look like top 4 teams .... but neither look close to Citeh. Very very very early days, but it's hard to go past City already.

Bournemouth will be happy with a draw. We have 7 front line players injured including 2 right backs and had to ask a guy we signed two days before to start for us. At least we are building depth in the squad and the longer the match went on, the better we looked.

Wont have players back for Liverpool either so expecting a loss again, just hopefully not a Scott Parker led 9-0 loss.

Bournemouth looked to have picked up Tyler Adams from Leeds after his Chelsea deal fell through..I am happy to have more depth but more injured players doesn't help us now

EDIT: if Liverpool don't make a late pounce

Given I (and most commentators) have Wolves being relegated, today's performance against ManU was bugger me surprising.

Gary ONeil already has a gritty defensive mindset in place but like at Bournemouth they will need to score goals. Still was a good start

Same reason why Ireland at 5/1 for RWC despite being the highest ranked team with two lower ranked teams with stronger odds.

                          Experience counts.

@Billy-Tell Most pundits have them outside the top 4, based on the fact that Chelsea and Liverpool will improve and that Newcastle's Champions League adventure will distract them.

I reckon the top 10 is pretty much set in stone.
City, Arse, ManU, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs, Brighton, Villa, Brentford (maybe not Hounslow Town and not in that order) with the other 10 all potentially getting sucked into a relegation dogfight.

Thoughts on the non-penalty for Wolves? United looked so listless in midfield, Wolves kept going straight through the middle of them.

Newcastle looking good again and with more depth in their attacking areas, they also need a quality left back. With both Wilson and Izak, they look much better set up for success than Chelsea who have lost Nkunku for a while.

@bayimports Villa will, the game against Newcastle wasn't as bad as the score suggested, and they have a strong squad.

Newcastle looking good again and with more depth in their attacking areas, they also need a quality left back. With both Wilson and Izak, they look much better set up for success than Chelsea who have lost Nkunku for a while.

I'm not fully up to speed on all the intricacies around penalty - I know it's essentially a foul in the penalty box - but you'll often hear the commentators say clear fouls are not given as penalties as there is "not enough there".

In this case, he certainly clatters in to him and was unlikely to get the balll, but he was going for it and it had no effect on the movement.

Going on past cases, I fully expected it to be given.

Is he on loan from Newcastle or did he move permanently?
