They'll struggle to make 80 at this rate... looking like a bit of a butt fucking now.

Warner will probably stroll out & smack 100 off 60 balls & it'll ber all over, but its a good test so far

Yeah, great to see Sri Lanka fighting hard. Be classic if they got up for the win.

Hi average nudging 30 now, it'll obviously blow out again if he runs up against one of the decent teams, but still... thats pretty respectable for a kiwi quick. Now need Guppy to pad out his average too.

Typical resistance from one batsman has seen them "rally" ( ciricinfos words ) to 164 all out. Good to see the BCs not get lazy and lose a cheeky wicket as can so often happen when batting for a short period. Didn't see but was it Wagners awesome bowling or sub class batsmen that saw him do so well ?

So is it too overconfident to expect one massive individual score, two good ones and a few others chipping in to reach 500-600 ? I don't think so at all. Time to make it rain boys ( figuratively, not literally )

That's top of my wish list. At least one very big hundred from Guptill to get his average well away from 30 and set him up for a bumper season.

Wagner's the sort of guy who just runs in hard all day and maximises every ounce of potential he has. Those are great test figures, even against Zimbo.

Wagner's record is interesting. His economy rate isn't great, his average is pretty ordinary, but his wickets per innings is pretty good. Different sort of 3rd seamer really.

The commentators were saying Wagner had bowled intelligently identifying the Zimbots weakness against the short ball. They obviously hadn't seen him bowl before...

I like that he provides a point of difference with the way he bowls, and isn't reliant on favourable conditions to be effective. Very handy third seamer given Southee and Boult are very similar apart from being right/left arm.

the zimbabweans didn't deal with the short stuff from wagner at all well. at his pace, better teams would.

can only play what is in front of you of course.

Yeah I agree, a better batsmen would just get out of the way all day long. But, he has had some success against decent opposition with the tactic as it's not one batsmen see very often, if at all, even at his pace.

He is also a bit shorter then most quicks too so gets more variable bounce with the odd one skidding through a bit, which can be unnerving for the batsmen.

Slightly different levels of class but that is also what worked for Malcolm Marshall too compared to his teammates who looked like walking telephone poles.

The SL Aus game is really heating up now. Aus 33/2 chasing over 250. Herath scored well with the bat this morning, and the tail definitely wagged for SL.

What a turnaround in this game. Fantastic to wathc, and properly exciting test cricket.

A real pity it's not on TV here in NZ. We bought a ChromeCast a few weeks ago, and it has revolutionised our house TV viewing.

Guptill true to form doesn't kick on but I'm sure we'll still put a big score together.

We bat once I reckon and bowl Zimbabwe out late day 3.
