Can someone please explain how if a defender places both hands on the floor beyond the ball at the ruck it’s a penalty, but if the first attacking player to form the ruck does it it’s not?

SH tend to enter the ruck solo and off their feet - which hardly gets picked up
Last night England placed hands beyond the tackled player and the ball, resting on their hands like a gorilla and/or flopped on and called about twice
Is the hands beyond the ball a penalty?

Meant that if it’s a SH ref then whomever does it seems to get a pass

I think the ref had a good game overall but missed this from England all night

each ref still, to this day, has a different approach to what constitutes hands on the ground. All you can do is adjust to how he is looking at it on the day

A win is a win but it was more a poor performance from the Japanese than a great English one. The game against Samoa should be interesting.
Undoubtedly. We’ve been lucky two games in a row now. I’d hope that we have learned some lessons around keeping the ball in hand and in particular not kicking away possession in an attacking position. I am not holding my breath.
