@SouthernMann that isn’t the Lions squad. That’s a wider squad made up of club players. Nothing to do with the NPC. You’re making this sound way bigger than it is.

@Canes4life TBF, this is what the media grabbed, people who dont follow rugby will still grab the main point that he was named after the event, regardless of the actual timeline...

Rep Rugby player will get more clicks than random fulla

@SouthernMann outrage should be with the bloke for his coward act, not the union.

Unless the player disclosed it, I think it's pretty unrealistic to think whoever names the squad needs to call up the police and check if anyone named did anything wrong before they publish it.

Maybe they will now, but I doubt anyone has thought of this scenario before.

If they knew, and named him, well then that's a different story.

this bit here is exactly the point. What is the timeline.

The incident has nothing to do with WRFU. Being transparent with the timeline, would be smart in front footing it.

    @SouthernMann Stargazer posted one above.

That would suggest that they were unaware on the 20th, but once they were presumably privy to what was happening, he wasn't picked.

that isn't the timeline of their awareness. That is the timeline of events.

    @SouthernMann

    From what you've said:

    • Incident took place on 18 June.
    • Police press release says man charged on 19 June.
    • On 20 June he's named in a team.

So your issue is no one checked on the 20th prior to the team naming any police reports in case one of the players had charges against him?

    Yes.

    1. When did Wellington rugby learn of the incident and charges.
    2. When was he formally removed from that playing group
    3. As court proceedings are ongoing, are there currently any sanctions in place against this player? Is he for example able to be selected for Wellington B while on bail.

The onus is on the player to supply this information. Name suppression has only just lapsed. However, if I was managing this situation for Wellington Rugby, I'd be very conscious of having these sort of details ironed out and confirmed.

Looks like a few players might be returning soon.

Savea, Aumua and Delany are back training.

Be good to have Aumua back but it's been really pleasing to see our depth has coped well this year.

5 (I hope) huge weeks coming up.

2 Shield defences, then a quarter, potential semi and potential final is a tough ask. 5 do or die games in a row.

@foobaNZ yeah that's why it will be nice to get a few players back.

We've suffered a few injuries recently with the likes of Southall, Preston and a few more going down. When you take into consideration who else is currently unavailable it would be nice to get a few back for the two defenses and the playoff run.

I'm taking from the video above that players with bibs on are involved this week so the Bus will be involved in some capacity.

Do you know more about the Preston injury? I think we're much better with him on the paddock. Hopefully not far away?

@foobaNZ no I don't unfortunately. Haven't seen him in any of the training footage recently with Sam Howling appearing a lot more. Hopefully he isn't done for the season.

@Canes4life sigh. I know we all harp on about it but the lack of professionalism around the NPC comp (e.g. a simple injury list with some basic info) is very frustrating.

Is there truly so little interest in domestic rugby these days journos don't want to spend any time on this? You'd think a major province like Wellington would warrant at least one bloke keeping an eye on things each week.

Toby Crosby, who has been training with the Wellington Lions in 2023 is rumored to be switching codes to join the Warriors as a development player in 2024.

@Canes4life Yeah, I read that on the club rugby website. Talented lad; a loss to rugby if true.

What a massive disappointment Tamati turned out to be. Especially after being so hyped as the next big thing

He had the players but his selections in key areas were idiotic. Mainly in the backs that is an area he should know about.

And players like Love went back massively under him. Maybe he's a great assistant coach but I doubt if, even with experience, he will ever have what it takes to be anything more than a limited head coach. A shame but full credit to him. He might have seen his limitations and decided to move on. Likely being involved with the ABs next year.

Now the lions need to find a competent head coach.

You're joking right? You lost two games by a total of three points. Had the best points diff by 70 points and played the most attractive rugby in the comp.
