S'funny, if you look at all the Bonds, more often than not their first films are by far the best, definitely much grittier and darker and then the descent into over reliance on gadgets and outlandish action scenes. Casino Royale v Spectre is a case in point. CR was just a great film with little in the way of gadgetry and you just know Bond will be merciless. Spectre, all though a good enough film was basically a series of action sequences with a plot loosely tied around it. From memory there were two minor explosions in CR but Spectre...
 
Same for Connery's bond. Compare Dr No with Diamonds are Forever or (God forbid) Never Say Never Again. Moore with Live and Let Die v pretty much any of the others. Goldeneye v that awful last one that Brosnan did.
 
I had high hopes that the Craig franchise would not become over reliant on the trickery but... meh.

The Craig ones have also reintroduced the scarred main villain and indestructible henchman as well.
 
Diamonds are Forever was fucken crap ( for Bond, it's still okish ) and Connery looked fat and disinterested with a horrible tie....

Disagree about Moores gritty dark one though, that was definitely "For your eyes only".....after a frankly ridiculous journey into space and trying to kill Jaws for the umpteenth time that was a real return to basics even going so far as to having Q's car blow up early on ( so not a single "gadget" ) and having a really cool old school mountain climbing scene and a pretty "realistic" plot ( the bad guys just wanted a coding machine, not to destroy the world ) Kriegler was a cool Henchman too.
 
It and "Live and Let Die" are my favourite Moore Bonds although this guy is far and away the best lead villain.....

The Dark Horse: I was a bit worried this wouldn't live up to the hype, but it did and so did Cliff Curtis' performance (interestingly Curtis strolled past me pre-flight). James Rolleston was also good. That kid must be heading off to Hollywood sometime soon as he seems to be in every NZ movie made these days.

It was Bourneish, in the main. The usual stuff of still digging into his past to find shit out, particularly about his Dad and whatnot.
 
Various European locations, cool fight scenes, Matt Damon doing his thing as a remorseless fluffybunny - who surprisingly only kills 1 person the entire film.
 
Alicia Vikander does a decent job as an emotionless, ambitious bitch who seeks to be the replacement for Julia Stiles' character, but not. 
 
Vincent Cassel is good as the ice-cold psycho mofo too.
 
There is some questionable "hacker" activity in the movie and I had to laugh at a couple of points. Like, why the fuck does the Mr Awesome Computer Guy have all his shit connected to the internet all the time? Does NO-ONE use a black box for decrypting files these days? Disbelief suspended...

Anyway, it was a good date night movie with Mrs TA and I give it 4 out of 5 Guys With State-Sanctioned Memory Wipes.
 
 
EDIT: Just occasionally, Greengrass needs to drop the fucking jerky camera angle shit. I understand WHY its done, but it sometimes ruins a good fight scene.
 
Oh and the new Reacher preview played - looks good.

I've not seen Olympus has fallen, but surely this was the sequel to Commando. Body count is off the charts, Bullshit-o-meter is just as high.
 
A little bit America! America! but outside that, it's a decent enough action flick, maybe a little behind it's time, but watchable.

Last time I was in London (May), the planning it took to create a traffic jam on an arterial route seemed to be well in place!

Suicide Squad: I liked it, way, way, way better the two Superman films that came before, if not being close to perfect. Margot Robbie and Will Smith were really good. 
 
There was some really bad scripting/editing at one point in it though where I actually had little clue what was going on. One character was included just so they could be killed (spoiler it's not Harley Quinn or Deadshot) yet they made it so obvious this was going to happen that really there was no point to it.
 
Margot Robbie played a deathly pale character throughout the whole film and I'm not a fan of the pale yet she was still hot as fudge. She also got a bunch of the funniest lines.
 
I didn't have a problem with Leto's Joker, people are always going to complain because of Ledger's performance.
 
6.5 Special Forces soldiers standing around watching Harley Quinn get changed out of 10 (of the other 3.5, 1 has a glass eye, 1 is dead, 1 is blind, and the other is gay).

Watched The Nice Guys. Ryan Gosling as a private investigator teams up with an enforcer played by Russell Crowe looking for a dead porn actress. Great chemistry between the two working with a very good script. Definitely recommend.
