@Bovidae I'm missing a few players, too. They could be injured, but I know that exactly these two players got a lot attention from scouts from outside the Hurricanes region. I hope the remaining franchises post their lists soon, too.

An article about SBHS, but also their pathway via the Highlanders.

Their no.8 was mentioned earlier. He's only recently moved from the backs into the forwards.

The thing with Rutledge and the young 8, Shaw is the number of openside flankers and loosies in the Highlanders region. Hayden Michaels, Sean Withy, Oli Haig, Will Stodart and Nikora Broughton. All under 22 and under. Then you have the young Holland coming through as a lock/flanker too. So plenty of options. I just hope we keep the right ones. The young winger who is off on a missions seems like a good prospect. Hopefully he comes back!

Southland was always known for their abrasive loose forwards.

Are the Highlanders selecting a U18 squad, or playing another team?

@Bovidae I believe the squad will be selected this week, probably to be announced tomorrow with a camp next week. The metro stuff finished in the weekend.

    From the WCS facebook:

Congratulations to Tali Ioasa on signing a 4 year deal with the Kobe Steelers in Japan. He joins Ardie Savea, Brodie Retallick, Ngani Laumape and Bryn Gatland on the Kobe Roster for next Season.

    Recruiting out of school.

@Bovidae Yeah, I posted that in the exodus thread a while ago. Potentially a big loss to NZ Rugby; he's a really talented midfielder.

Highlanders select 48-man squad for Secondary Schools Camp | Highlanders Rugby Club Limited Partnership

A Highlanders Schools squad will assemble for a 5-day camp hosted at John McGlashan College from the 4th to the 8th of October. This will be the biggest Highlanders Secondary Schools camp with 48-players selected from over the Highlanders region and eight local coaches from Otago, Southland and...

Coaches for the week are drawn from throughout the Highlanders region including Scott Eade (Southland), Josh Phipps (North Otago) and Regan Turoa (Otago) and will be supported by a strength and conditioning trainer, nutritionist, mental skills trainer and analysts. The 5-day camp culminates with an internal game where the on-field skills and learnings from the camp will be able to be applied in a game setting.

Players simply choose to migrate to the place with the best culture for young people.

@frugby Usually you get a few 1st XV players who have committed to play elsewhere in these teams. The Blues, Hurricanes and Crusaders U18s do have such players, but the Chiefs and Highlanders do not.

I'm sure timing plays a part with these things, as well as the fact different teams have different systems. Think the Highlanders programme is really just designed to expose as many local players as possible (within reason) to a higher quality end-of-season camp.

I don't believe it really directly links much towards the Highlanders, other than the fact the pathways guy Kane Jury heads it, but he is away in Aussie at the moment.

    I would assume so.

The SR development squads are U18 so not just restricted to those at school. If you look at the lists some have a club attached to their name.

Two Hurricanes line-ups for a game of 3 35-minute thirds.
They're not using all players that were invited to attend camp. Angus Prouting missing in those lists, for example. Also players out of position.
