Who says it surprises her? I very much doubt this lady needs any middle age rugby forum poster telling her about the possible risks involved in doing this work. But that won't stop half the country mansplaining to her how risky, stripping at private parties can be, and how she should just accept sexual assault as an unpleasant aside to her work life balance. Middle aged? If only. To be fair I'm not telling her anything, just saying that, like it or not, right or wrong, this sort of behaviour IS a fairly staple part of her chosen career. No, I do not think she should put up with it but I do think it's an odd stance to take in whining to the press. If it was THAT bad complain to Chiefs management, threaten them with the press, walk out, kick the bloke in the nuts.

But put yourself in her situation. You take a job explain the painfully simple rules but the guys ignore them and get touchy, what would you do? Take it on the chin? (Possible pun intended) Because some dudes can't respect the rules. I would revert you to my closing comment "Young men, booze, testosterone. Naked girls. What could possibly go wrong?". Now remember these guys are like Hamilton royalty if there is such a thing, and she is already looked down on by all a sundry for her low morales. Here you have a very valid point. Why is it that she is judged for being a stripper but the guys are not judged for ogling a stripper? Bizzarre when you you think about it. So other then the media who should she go to? Now its out there it has to be taken seriously by the police and the chiefs can't ignore it. Perhaps. Or perhaps she sees her chance of her 15 minutes and is dragging guys through the mud. Who knows? Either way, she has made her career choice and unless things were really bad rather than some twat trying for a quick grope, then get on with it. Note I am not condoning said twat's behaviour, just saying that level of twattishness is par for the course, happens hundreds of times and so why is it worthy of such publicity now.

So she may be looking for her 15 minutes or she may be taking pretty much the only avenue available to her to do something about this. We don't know if she has complained to the police about assaults in the past to be ignored or if she has had a bouncer to rough these fellahs up in the past. We don't know a thing about her. But she has made a complaint and it should be taken seriously and people should put aside their personal beliefs about when sexual assault suddenly becomes acceptable. Because the law says it never is. Accepted.

Cato. This is getting way too reasonable. The one thing I would add is it's easy for us as men to say deal out some violence in retaliation. But in reality that is probably not an option open to her. Actually unless you're built like David Tua is probably not open to you against a bunch of professional rugby players. Plus it opens her up to an assault charge.

With any luck those involved will apologise and we can get on with our lives.

If sexual assault has taken place, apologies will not suffice.

I don't know exactly what happened as I wasn't there. But it is obvious enough that this has become a needless PR disaster for the Chiefs and the NZRU. No need for Mad Mondays from professional sports teams and holding one in a public place was doubly stupid.

Steve Hansen has said he is disappointed. I suspect he and Steve Tew are furious. Whoever from the Chiefs management green-lighted this Mad Monday and its arrangements should do NZ Rugby a favour and resign.

Michael Allardice is about the only one of the Chiefs to have any PR sense in the way he attempted to apologise and make things right (or at the very least he has managed to follow good advice).

The Chiefs CEO must be a dead man walking in the job. First having a go at the stripper, secondly leaving his own press conference the minute a difficult question was asked. From what little I know of Margaret, she's probably unrepentant...!

Regardless of how much of a 'media beat-up' the story is or isn't, the CEO and Mrs Comer didn't need to grab a shovel and keep digging.

I can't beleive I didn't go to the press when the stripper at my stag do tied me to a chair and beat the sh*t outta me with a ruler.

Only two positives out of this:

1. Allardice's good sense in apologising as sincerely and humbly as he could.
2. Steve Hansen's leadership. I thought his comments were spot on.

Exactly, Don. He's the CEO of a very public sporting organisation with an international reach. If he can't handle a media conference without saying something incredibly stupid, then he shouldn't be in the role.

A comms or media manager would NEVER advise handling a situation the way he did, so either he didn't seek advice, or ignored it. And now he's up to his eyeballs in shit, and it's gone from a small matter to leading the fucking six o'clock news.

Idiot.

That's the thing. The players hired the stripper - should they resign? It would seem ridiculous that a team could not go to the Matamata hotpools and have an end of season function. It was the players who took it to the next level.

As soon as this started up he should have come out and said "This sounds very serious, we are conducting a full and thorough investigation, no comment until that is done". Then just no comment from there.

Then you wait for it to blow over and unless anything particularly heinous or criminal is uncovered you are in the clear.

Also Lizzie Marvelly. I don't mind columnists giving opinions, that's what they paid to do. But a columnist who thinks their opinions define right and wrong for everyone else...
