I'm hoping we don't name Hickey as our captain, because then he becomes undroppable. If Hickey performed half decently last season, we probably win the comp.

If Luatua doesn't make the All Blacks, I'd have him as captain.

That's a good point, I hadn't looked at it from that direction. There is a group of promising 10's around Auckland at present but they are all very green. I wonder if Hickey will be named captain by New coach White? If not the new boys may get more of a share of the game time. It will be interesting to see which of the young 10's make the squad. I would guess Talataina-Mu and Fonoti.

These two would make the most sense, as not only do they cover 10, they also cover the midfield. With TJ Faiane due back in October, and Moala(and Fekitoa) possibly in the All Blacks, we could only be left with Rieko and Aso as our midfielders for the season.

The ITM Cup 2015. Auckland came within a whisker of winning in last year, despite Hickey having a very poor season.

We were lucky to only lose that final by 2 points with Hickey at 10. He added nothing in general play and put us on the backfoot right at the beginning of the game by gifting the ball to the Cantabs in great field position because of his silly nothing dink kick within our 22. The Cantabs eventually score from it and we're down 5 - 0 in the first minute of a final away from home.

Hickey looks like he should be safe, but he plays more like a goal kicking Tasesa Lavea.

Today, it has finally been made official that Todd Blackadder and Tabai Matson are joining Bath rugby as Director of Rugby and Head Coach, respectively.

Glasgow Warriors have announced that Super Rugby winning coach Dave Rennie will take over from Gregor Townsend ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Rennie joined the Chiefs in 2012 and won two Super Rugby titles in his first two seasons, including becoming the first first-year coach to win a Super Rugby title since 2000.

The former Wellington centre held a position at the International Rugby Academy of New Zealand (IRANZ) as a resource coach between 2003-2007.

He also coached Manawatu in the NPC between 2006-2011, and alongside that role he coached the New Zealand U20 side which won three consecutive Junior World Championships between 2008-2010. He started his coaching career in 1999 at Wellington, where the team won their first NPC title in 14 years in his opening season as head coach in 2000.

The 52-year-old will replace Townsend in the Glasgow role in a two-year deal, when he becomes Scotland's national head coach at the start of the 2017/18 season.

Townsend led Glasgow Warriors for four years, reaching the PRO12 play-offs every season, culminating in the team winning the title in 2015.

Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Mark Dodson, said: "It is a clear indication of the progress Scottish Rugby, and Glasgow Warriors, are making that we can attract a coach of Dave’s experience to Scotland to work with our players.

"Gregor has developed a great winning culture at Glasgow Warriors and I’m very confident Dave will be able to build on that solid foundation to bring more success to the club.

"We have a group of talented Scottish players at Glasgow and we want to maintain their progress and this appointment will expose them to fresh ideas and new approaches to the game.

"Dave’s experience at the Chiefs and at New Zealand age-grade level can only help to develop them and the team further."

Rennie said: "I am delighted to be appointed to the Head Coach role at Glasgow Warriors. The opportunity to work with such an exciting group of players at a club that has such big ambitions and a great winning culture was one I couldn’t turn down.

"It's no secret I have been interested in coaching abroad and this chance with Scottish Rugby fitted the bill perfectly.

"As a coach you want to test yourself in new environments with new challenges. The work Gregor and his team have done at the Warriors speaks for itself and I am very motivated to continue that success and build the club."

Length is key and I can't find it mentioned for Rennie. Glasgow is a bit of a surprise, I wonder if they snuck in because they were willing to offer opt-outs or option years to Rennie while the other cashed up suitors were not?
