Just read a piece in Stuff by Aaron Goile on the Talea sanction and referencing previous incidents ā What is interesting to note is that on all these occasions, the All Blacks have gone on to win their tests following the incidents in question ā 33-10 against Argentina in Auckland in 2011; 21-11 against South Africa in Dunedin in 2012; 34-13 against the Pumas in La Plata in 2014; 57-15 against the Springboks in Durban in 2016ā

Schmidt must have had an input into the 9. He coached Christie with the Blues, so maybe he swayed Foster
Yes, it would be good to know how much influence the assistant coaches have in the final selections. Ryan has rolled the dice with the young props while Schmidt has gone all conservative.
Schmidt clearly has a lot of faith in him. Christie was on the bench for the first Irish test in '22 which we won 42-19. Foster was out ill for the 1st Test against Ireland in '22 and Schmidt was in charge which is why we won according to Fern logic,
Clearly Schmidt knows what he is doing when playing Ireland and Christie is the clear and obvious choice if we are to win.
Of course, Fern logic could be bollocks....

Not necessarily. Now I canāt confirm this story but the way I look at it, if Roigard was out he was never going to start and only MT is in that category.
Even if he was in bench consideration, bench players are rotated so there isnāt a need to say more than is needed. Likewise Sami T

This thread is really confusing. Apparently, there is an Auckland School called Grammer. Apparently Blackadder can spend 2 years out of the ABs with injury, nurse himself back to health, abstain from booze, and get kicked out of the QF for returning late one night: one giant teetotalling, injury replacement foodbill. And to cap it off, he was selected for his dedication and tireless workrate. What a jagged little pill to swallow!

I guess he just didnāt fit in with the rest of the alcoholics in the squad. They frowned when he said no to bourbon on his cornflakes each morning
