Was trying to work out what would have to happen during the game for me to think we have a chance, I think the Boks will have to lose two loose head props early in the game, preferably to red cards, then Eben & PSDT to reds, then for Kolbe to pull a hamstring

@Dodge a red card will give you a chance. It'll at least keep the score down 😄

@MiketheSnow Stranger things have happened. I mean, Greece won the Euros in 2004 FFS!

@MiketheSnow Did you think Wales were going to finish 2nd in their pool? 😉

So we sneak a draw and go through on tries score? (1xpt)?

even with a 4 man advantage and a hobbling winger we'd fuck up an overlap

2 SH refs for the semis then. They know.

@Dodge according to the Walrus, England need to unleash their inner France and take it to the Boks to help the tournament recover from losing the amazing French team (that couldn't catch a ball on Sunday).

Even Woodward's Harlem Globe Trotters wouldn't have tried doing that!

England have a pack that can compete in grunt stakes. A decent stable of props, hookers and second rows.

The back row of Lawes, Curry and Earl is full of mongrel.

It is in the backline where concerns are raised, because even if the forwards get (near) parity in their battle with the Boks, what the hell are the backs going to do with it?

Surely Freddie Steward has to come back as he is England's best high kick receiver, which means the boy wonder drops to the bench or out of the 23 altogether (if Ford is retained on the bench).

@stodders Yeah, they’ll need him there. Maybe play him at 14. Keep Smith at 15 and just run him at flailing arms all night.

A moot point as by the time the scrum half has waited for the requisite number of pods to get into position, the overlap has gone.

Our props aren’t that good. Genge a good rather than great scrummager but a mongrel around the park. Sinckler an ok scrummager, good hands and a good carrier. Marler is just vanilla these days outside of his after match comments. Cole can scrum but is glacial around the park. Rodd and Stewart are not up to the job in any department.

Although I generally like the Springboks, I would enjoy the most if England hammer them like they did the ABs in 2019 and then go down in a whimper to the ABs in the final, again as in 2019 only it was to the Boks. If Argentina win the semi, I want the Boks to win and then win the final too. Argentina always with the soccer theatrics, don't like them

From the Beeb. Earl has played v well. A standout for England. Tough competition though at no 8 in a World XV.

Earl has been very good but not really in a traditional No8 way. He’s been playing a great flanker’s role with an 8 on his back. A bit like Savea from a year or so back.
