    @Snowy Happy New Year.

    So, all that was needed to bring you out of hiding was a post of a near Tenerife disaster!!!

    Hope you are doing OK in this weather and otherwise.

    @dogmeat Haha, something like that. Distracted me from my own disasters for a minute (see the weather thread).

    Happy new year to you too. I was a bit of a Warriors fan about this year, who would have thought it could be even more shit than the last two but here it is. It is even literally shit as I have an upside down portaloo lying next to my destroyed house. Really do have to laugh.

    I'm actually considering going back to flying, that Tenerife-like incident might have put me off it again (that and the aforementioned boredom, jetlag, sleep deprivation, etc, etc).

    @Snowy Just saw your weather posts. Man that sucks. Still there's gotta be other Epsom bungalows and it least you weren't in it at the time.

    I'm going to check on my brothers place on my way home. 50% certain at least part of it will be underneath the Waitemata.

    Still in the spirit of Dunkirk I have decided to soldier on and go to the pub tonight - unless things get so bad I risk being decapitated getting there.

    Last night convinced me windy draughty 100 year old houses aren't the ideal place to hunker down.

    Airshow at Ardmore this weekend.
    Chance to show the kids the amazing sight of a formation of Spitfire, Kittyhawk and Mustang.
    What a sound that will be.
    NZ is very lucky to have these beautiful aircraft doing live displays and you get a hell of a lot closer than overseas shows. It’s cheaper too.

    @NTA

    Some years ago, I was at the Kent County Show and it was heaving. All the bars were crammed. Demos going on, busy stalls etc. a lone Spitfire flew over and did a few passes and loops. Everything and I do mean everything stopped to watch. All the bars emptied, demos stopped. Everything.

    T’was brilliant.

    Yeah, they sneaked one in, maybe two separate films spliced?

    The last bit where you get to hear it is awesome. Unmistakeable Merlin sound.

    Beautiful.

    South of Sydney is the HARS Aviation Museum. All sorts of stuff for aircraft nuffies, including a few WW2 era aircraft.

    We were there one day when someone took a joyflight in a 2 seater P51. We were outside in the tarmac when it fired up.

    My reaction:

    @NTA go to Temora.

    I spent 3 years at uni in Wagga and drove through Temora at least a dozen times between there and home.

    Must get back #roadtrip
