<p>There is a real chance that Ryder wouldn't make the test team on performance alone anymore. It seems silly to say when we have Nicholls at 5 but Ryder's average was dropping towards the end of his test career. I guess it is the not knowing which makes people wonder.</p> -

<p>We really need to find a number 5. Either Guppy drops down and we hope like hell he has more success there, or we promote someone from domestic cricket. As another poster said, I can't see Nicholls succeeding in the short term at least - too many technical flaws for test cricket.</p> -
<p>I think Bharat Popli might and should get a run, top scorer last year in domestic cricket, a nice average of 50</p>

<p>Will Young is the man to play at 5 imo, but unfortuantely his coversion rate from 50s to 100s is shocking. He's a far better bet than Nicholls but really needs to start tonning up on a more regular basis if he is to catch the selectors attention.</p>
